19" wheels upgrade question
I have an opportunity to upgrade my 19" Style 212 255/50 R19 to 213 255/50 R19 and 285/45 R19 for a good price. Question is can I just put these straight on... looks like the rears are not wide enough to need the flared wheel arches... how does going from a 255/50 R19 rear to a 285/45 R19 rear affect the car.. I would think it would it would affect something as I'm going from a 50 profile to 45 profile on the same size rim ? Thanks !!!

I don't think you'll even notice any difference. You surely won't need any flares unless you step up to the 20" which are 315/35/20. THEN you will notice both looks and performance with a firm ride!

:iagree: the change you are proposing would make negligible difference, if any, in ride, comfort, handling etc. The flares are not required either. I changed from stock 18s to 20s and only noticed a marginal improvement in handling.

Hi , the change is not to get better ride or handling.. simply I am up for new tyres and I can get a full set of near new 4 wheels and tyres with 85% tread for less than new tyres on my existing wheels (and I have to wait around 10 days for teh tyres to come out of the container in Melboourne..).. I am keeping the existing wheels and will put those back on when I sell...

The flairs make the X5 look alittle better but you can get away without them. As for ride no big change but pushing 315 tyres and had having both 19" & 20" the economy does drop a little. I got the feeling it cost me around 3/4 of a litre per 100klm, I could not my 3.0sd down under 10.4 whereas with 19" I was getting around 9.6ltr (that's city & country combined) |
