Problem: Slow or no rear camera

My 09 X5 has both rear camera and pdc.

anyone experience slowness of the camera coming on? When i start my car, and put in reverse, most of the time, camera did not even come on.. until I am almost done with my backup... which made it kinda ureless.. and some times PDC does the same.

also, put in drive.. and the camera would stay on for so long that is very unpleasant.

Yes, it's "normal." It's annoying, but "normal." Do a search. This issue has been discussed before.

I did search.. I realize that the Camera stays on while moving forward for a while.... I did not find any information on slowness of the camera comes on. or sometime never comes on.

While it is supposed to activate the exact moment you engage the car in R, the camera is randomly slow to come on. With MBZ, Lexus and oddly Range Rover (which uses the same camera and PDC system as BMW) the camera comes on right away. Don't know why the E70 takes a while to activate, although it is not every time for this problem. Both the E70 and Range Rover stay on while in D for a few moments. Seems odd, but a lot of times you are going between R and D while parallel parking, 3 point turns, manuevering, etc.. So it makes sense for the camera not to have to go on & off. It is not so great to begin with, so we can't over tax the poor system!! Bavarian Gremlins. Btw, while the Range Rover camera quality is still pretty bad, it is actually clearer and the colours are better than the E70 (same camera supplier though), so odd. BMW must have said: "Ve must mach dee Kamera wurse dann all uzzer Kameras". :)

I disagree. The camera in the RR is mounted on top of the rear window, a lot higher than on the E70. Therefor it stays cleaner, but the mid height position is better for judging distance. As an added bonus you can see the hitch when hooking up a trailer, this is not possible in the RR.

I can feel a lot more little disagreements between us coming up Deutsch..
