Hi.

Just joined site having acquired an E70 and will get around to adding some pics.

Your wifes new toy looks excellent. Can you tell me where you got/can get the spacers as I might add the 20mm to the rear of my own.

Cheers.

John

Mr.Black 04-17-2009 12:40 PM

Very very nice, I like it alot, for the wifey ah, that thing looks menacing

you got me thinking about getting 215 in black myself it looks so good, any idea what $$ was to paint the wheels ...thx in advance

I hope the wifey shows signs of appreciation;pervert;

ncx 04-17-2009 12:43 PM

Looks awesome. Nice touch on the dechroming.

nynd 04-17-2009 08:13 PM

Does that reverse light work well for the camera? (pic 20)

Michelle 04-17-2009 08:27 PM

OMG IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weasel 04-17-2009 09:08 PM

Looks beastly! I love the black on black on black... on black!

Where did you find the gloss black grilles, badging, tips etc? Was it all custom painted?

alexmish 04-17-2009 10:46 PM

Can you post some details as to how the rear light was wired ?

rh71 04-18-2009 12:53 AM

With the spacers added do you feel any difference at all (steering, handling)? And do you generally have to do a wheel alignment because of the new camber? Or is a few mm not a big deal? I just paid the stealer $150 to do it for me because when I got my 20s on (from regular 19s) from the independent shop, I don't think it was ever done.

Bozz 04-18-2009 09:11 AM

That looks like a beast but a nice one, very tastefully done thats an excellent looking X5 you got there. Are these your wife's ideas or all your own.

genew 04-18-2009 06:06 PM

Dechromed the whole truck. All badges, front grill and exhaust are gloss black along with the rear roundel as well.

You've got a special vehicle....one of a kind!!!!!!!! The only thing I can't understand is you've dechromed the whole truck including badges, grill and exhaust. My question is why would you have ordered those SS running boards? I know, I know you like them but why bother doing all the other work and having those dudes stand out like a sore thumb. They should be standard equip on a minivan. The rest of your ride is out of this world !!!!!!!:dunno:

Michelle 04-19-2009 12:06 AM

That's not black?!?!?!?!

simoncpw 04-19-2009 03:58 AM

Very very nicely done.

I'm also interested to know how you de-chrome the badges. I've been trying to find a way to do mine. Did you just paint over them?

Thanks.

hhhm3 04-20-2009 12:19 PM

This X5 is your wife's or yours, it seen too testosterone-ish for a women.

How does it feel with the K&N air filter? any significant more power?

Good idea with the rear fog light for the rear camera.

You tapped into the reverse light directly without using any relay? If so, I'm surprised it hadn't blew a fuse or worst yet, take down your controller as that 55W light will put a strain on it (the controller).

mrdrd4.8 04-22-2009 12:39 AM

how did you paint the exhaust tips black? and about how much did it cost?

PersonaNonGrata 04-22-2009 01:00 AM

Very nice looking package.

So who is in charge of washing that beast? ;)

PasPar2 04-26-2009 09:31 PM

jmonty21 04-26-2009 11:17 PM

Great job with modding.

You may want to add the 3M film on taillights to make them black and add to "angry look". ;)

Your X looks hot and def one of a kind. I love it! Take something ordinary and make it look like one of a kind special edition. Take notes from this guy fellow members!

On another note, the cops are gonna give wifey one ol' hard time with that plate missing off the front here in NY...

I agree. Tried to rock a euro plate in the back and have my NY plate in the window. After being pulled over a couple of times and two parking tickets, I had to put the plate on the back.

hhhm3 04-28-2009 11:40 AM

Having your plate in the window just looks a bit trashy (looks like the car is falling apart and can't even hold the plates, imo).

Beacuse your vehicle is already a priemium eye catcher (a wow car!) the cops will notice it more and they will notice you don't have the state plate on the vehicle.
Although the cops do seem to leave the old junker cars alone even when not having front and rear plate but just a paper copy of the plate on the windshield.

I know people that got pulled over a couple of times because they didn't have the front plate on their premium vehicle, though it was on the windshield but I think that got the cops attention even more.

hhhm3 04-28-2009 12:08 PM

That is what I meant, the plate is inside the car window/windshield.

Some people never get pulled over for that and some do.
It only takes one bad mood cop then your be sorry...
But it is risk, it is a risk also that they may fine something else wrong they when pulled over (beer bottles in the back seats, smell like marijuana:D, forgot license/ownership in other pants, no seat belt on etc...)

He said he has the plate in the car, not in the window. I said I had it in my REAR window and it did not look tacky because there was an authentic german plate affixed to the back. The license plate was in the rear window but it was very much concealed by the rear window tint. So it was barely noticeable (which was why I was pulled over) and did not look like it was falling apart at all. In fact, if you look at the picture in my avatar, a plate was in the rear window then.

Is your X5 an import from Europe?
Is that why you the euro style plate are on the X5 and not the state plates or is it just vanity?
I can certainly see why people like the Euro plates better, it sleeker and fits more contour with the cars/SUVs.

I know some who done this.
If the Euro plate are the original, you can send those plates to the License Office and request for state certification on your Euro plates. The cost is the same as Vanity plates.

If I was a cop and saw a vehicle with two plates I would pulled them over too just to find out why and if plates are registered to that vehicle's VIN.

stockguru 04-29-2009 10:56 PM

Can you post a pic of the rear view camera at night with the fog lights? Also, is this something the dealer can do or is it going to void some warranty.

This X5 looks AWESOME!!!! Definitely one of the best, if not the best, X5 on this forum. Great job!

BGM 05-19-2009 11:48 AM

I think doing mods on cars is a Northeast and California thing--seems more popular there.

1SIKCAB 05-19-2009 11:45 PM

absolutely sinister! great looking ride. Agree that the front looks so much better without the plate. That's why I'm installing a motorized james-bondish unit.

raskal83 05-20-2009 09:03 AM

great looking ride and glad to see a monaco blue x5 setup on this site. hoping to meet you and some of the LI guys to see your setups in person (couldn't even tell it was monaco blue in the picture). which body shop did you go to get the tints on the windows and the roundels painted?

Perfect Ten in West Babylon. Owners name is Matt. He does amazing work. He did my M5, my X5, polepositions X5 and his Smart. I've been using Matt for years. A bunch of the M5Board members have been using him for a long time on their cars. I highly recommend him. He's meticulous and very fair with his pricing.

If you go, mention my name and he will take great care of you. My name is Calton.

Matt's number is:

Perfect Ten Auto
91 Jersey St # D
West Babylon, NY 11704
(631) 491-6970

PS - If you drive out to him, DO NOT use Nav. It will lead you to a dead end. Call him and he'll tell you how to get to his shop.

LI-X5 06-03-2009 10:45 PM

+1 on the perfect ten guy !!
