2009 X5 Nav DVD Read Error

Just got my X5 in January. Nav system is now starting to act up daily with either "Insert Nav Disc" or "DVD Read Error". It is a 2009 Nav disc but I'm not sure of what OS version because nowhere on the screen is it displayed. Anybody have any advice on this problem. I will probably end up taking it to the dealer but that is a pain.

Have you popped the DVD out? The version number is printed on the middle left side of DVD e.g. 2009.1

You could clean it gently with some a little dishwasher liquid and water. Wipe in a circular motion just using your hand -- you don't want to make any scratches. Wash all the dishwashing liquid off. Dry gently. Keeping it clean, re-insert it.

Oh, and :xoutpost:

I did clean it with Windex to no avail. It is indeed 2009.1. Any thoughts on the V32 OS upgrade?

I thought the V32 OS upgrade was for E53 models i.e. pre-2007?

If you did use Windex, did you clean all the Windex off with water?

Not sure on the V32 applications, that's why I'm asking. I'll try recleaning the DVD with mild soap and water and see if that helps.

Maybe it's the drive!

I had similar problems about 6-9 months into the use of my then new 2007 model. It turned out to be a bad DVD drive and the unit was replaced under warranty after 2/3 days in the shop for the dealer to first try everything else! Along with the new drive, they also updated all the vehicle software and that took care of the occasional glitch I was experiencing in error codes.

Do you have an E53 or an E70?

E70

In that case I think you have no choice but to go to the dealer.

Easy answer for this. Don't fret about it. If you under
warranty just let em fix it or provide you with a working
Disc.

Remember as long as it's active the warranty is your best friend.
Do your best to make that relationship happen.

It's the player, I'm thinking. I've got this same exact problem on my E70 and I intend to take it to get fixed next week. The disk I have is immaculate, yet, this message keeps popping up quite frequently; almost every other start. When I eject then reinsert the disk, it works fine until I shut down the vehicle and restart.

It finally quit altogether. They replaced the drive as I expected. All is well now.
