I'm trying to decide between 255/55-19 front+285/45-19 rear and 275/45-20 unstaggered (I will run the Latitude Tour HP).

275/45-20 tires on 9x20 offset 40 wheels all-around.

It´s little higher than 255/50-19, but it makes good for that wheel gap.
(Did you mean 255/50-19 front+285/45-19 rear?)

HHR - thanks for your "lead" on the slightly over-sized tire setup... I just installed 275/45-20 all around and I could not be more pleased! I feel like I have a new car both from the looks and the feel! I went with the Yokohama Parada Spec-X (smooth and quiet!) on 214 replicas (20x10).
I parked next to two other X5s today - one 3.0 with OEM wheels and a 4.8 with the 20" package. I always thought the overall diameter on the X5 wheels looked too small for the car (the OEM 20" tire package even has slightly smaller diameter than with the standard wheels). The 45/20 profile fills the wheel well a bit more and of the 3 cars parked in a row I like my setup the best, even with my "skinny" rears. It certainly wouldn't hurt with the flares, but don't think I will add them.
Picture doesn't really do it justice, but including anyway.

Cheers

It really looks ok!

Resently I saw MB ML with 255/50-20 tires, They are even taller and looks nearly same in widht (you hardly ever see the widht with mudguards). Perhaps next tires will be those. They will run really close to upper wishbone, but I have to discuss with my dealer about to test them.
