Extended warranty options
 

I have 19K on my 2008 X5 after 10 months and now wish I would have bought an extended warranty. Anyone know if I can still get the BMW extended warranty and what they cost? Also what do they cover?

No need to purchase an extended warranty until about a week or two before the factory warranty runs out. I was quoted 3995.00 for an extra two years. I have the diesel, so your quote may be different. I decided to wait to purchase the warranty. That was a BMW factory warranty, not after market...

It was called O2P, as in Original Owner Protection plan...I think it is still offered.
Is identical to CPO, from my reading. No idea on price; I would rec'd calling
every dlr in your area and asking for a quote: they are after your biz.

Imo, you could wait as you have time on your side with considerable
oem coverage left on your car.

Craig is correct. As long as you're the original owner, you can still wait to purchase the extended warranty before the original warranty expires. You have 2 options: No charge schedule maintenance warranty or regular warranty. The no charge option is the same as the original warranty , but it is more expensive. You can get a quote in 5 minutes by calling the dealership where you bought the car. Prices vary depending on the stealer's mark-up and any promotions that may be in effect at the time of your call. My recommendation is to wait until about 2-3 months before your regular warranty expires and call all BMW dealerships in your Area. Therefore you have time to shop for the best deal and know for sure if you wanna the extended warranty or not. Please also remember that extended warranty are fully refundable i.e. you can still get back your money back (pro-rated of course) if you do not transfer it to the next owner.

On the diesel, my dealer said they don't offer the extended maintenance warranty. I felt no need to pay for the warranty up front. I asked about a refund if I sold the car and they told me, it is pro rated. That's why I'm going to wait until close to when the original warranty expires. I agree, shop around. The finance manager was trying to sell me the extended warranty along with tire and wheel warranty, ding and dent warranty. He even tried to sell me an after market warranty as well.

Hi all, I have a question about the extended warranty. I had x5 04 and bought the extended warranty 100K miles until 2010, during the time service I have not pay any
things. Recently dealer have reduce the service and replace a new service guys who
asking me to pay for $50 for handling charge to replace a CV boot. I am question him
about the charge and he gives me the print out of the warranty-termsm & conditions under the handling charge for $50 per repair visit.

Any one know about this? and he said brake service with no charge because under maintenance but the CV boot consider a part then will be $50 ???

Please let me know or any where I can search for the answer.

Yes, the CPO/O2P extended warranties both contain that "$50 buck" per visit
term in the fine print. Some dlrs used to/may still pass on that, but in this current
econ climate, many dlrs will hold one to it, as they try to support their
eroding profit margins. So, avoid going in for "one item fix" and gang them
together for that $50 "fee".

$50.00 deductible on CPO. Sometimes my dealer waives it depending on the hassle for me - loaner car, travel etc. But it is in writing.

Not sure why everyone keeps telling you to wait until just before your regular warranty runs out. BMW's extended warranty pricing has only gone UP and not down over the past few years, several hundreds of dollars at a time. If you plan on keeping the car or want to have the extended warranty to add to its resale value, then I'd get it sooner rather than later.
