Ugh! Iphone/Ipod - is this right?
So, I have a 2009 x5 and it didn't come with ipod adapter/usb whatever..
here is where I am confused.. I dropped the car off today and paid 500 bucks for them to put the ipod adapter in and too my surprise it was the one that goes in teh glove box UGLY chord!!! I thought they were installing the USB interface in the console.. am I out of my mind here, is that even possible after market? I hate this chord in the glove box.. second issue is it shows an error that it won't charge my device and asks me to go airport mode and turn the phone off! someone please enlighten me here. thanks in advance. |
We have one of those in the e60
Your gonna love it. However it is true that with that device the iPhone wont charge but there's a very small device that plugs into the iPhone then into the cord and you'll be good to go. I forgot the name of it. I'll dig it up. |
That's where it goes: the "ugly cord" in the glove box... That's the current BMW solution :(
Yes, it shows not charging but if you check it, you'll probably see that it does (mine does). When you prompted for airport mode, ignore that. Unfortunately, both of those things are the common behavior when connecting the iPhone :( |
so I can't add the usb interface ?

In what way will the USB interface be better?

from what i have seen it doesn't use the CD player and uses the USB on the LCD.. better interface and it is much more convenient to place since it is also my phone.
bluetooth breaks up for .. at least people I talk to say that I do. |

yep, I have bluetooth and my iphone syncs to it fine. It's just people I talk to say one of two things..
1. sounds like your talking from the car 2. you cut out and break up a lot when using the bluetooth |
Mine is at the dealer now getting a hitch installed and the iPhone cradle. Mine didn't come with any of the ipod/iphone options. I have been using bluetooth up 'till now for the phone. That and plugging a cable into the headphone jack of the iPhone into the jack in the console for listening to music on the iphone. I have been waiting for the parts to come in. I'm getting a cradle that charges the iPhone, connects the antenna to the car's antenna and allows control of the ipod part of the iPhone through the stereo (i-drive controller). So I think there is a way to do it according to my dealer. They were well aware that I had to have this option when I ordered the car and they told me that they can do anything that the factory can as far as iPhone integration. Maybe you want to specifically ask them about the iPhone "cradle" not just a connector.
