Send addresses from google to your X5's nav...

Not sure when this began, but you can now send an address from Google maps to your nav. It's wild.

My question is, where does the address appear in the car? In the address book, on the navigation prior destination list, or..I read in some BMW literature that there is a sub menu in idrive for this perhaps by the service info.

Anyway. I sent an address to our new X5 and it registered as sent on the computer, but I can't find it in the car.

Has anyone done this? Where in idrive does the address appear?

Thanks,
DRP

Under communication, not in the nav menu, where it would make sense. MyInfo is the title of the place you want to be.

How do you send the address from Goodle maps to your Nav?

jaesun 05-15-2009 05:46 PM

You go to Google Maps and type in the address/business that you are looking for. Once the map comes up, click on the pin that represents your destination. A little window will pop up with a few options in it. Click on "send," then click on "car," then select "bmw" and then enter your BMW Assist account name. I believe you will have to first set up your account through BMW Assist.

Too bad this service is only available for 2009 models. :dunno:

I was told to use the email address that you registered with BMW assist as the send to address.

I called BMW Assist and I was told it only works for 2009 models and 2008 X6. Following is also what's in the BMW Assist site. Can you share how did you make it work for your 2007 E70?

Connect your drive.
http://resource.bmwusa.com/image_ba1...076a66872.aroxMyInfo* helps you to reach your destination faster, more conveniently and safely. Search for a business location or a street address from the comfort of your home, office or internet-connected cellular phone or laptop using Google Maps™. With MyInfo, you can then transfer the results and even a personal note to your BMW with a click of your mouse.
Once inside the vehicle, the destination will appear under the BMW Assist menu option. You can transfer it to your BMW Navigation system (if so equipped) for immediate route guidance and can call the destination via your Bluetooth® linked phone. At the touch of a menu option, you’re on your way.
You can even share MyInfo with your family, friends and colleagues and have them send destinations to you while you’re on the road!
*Available on BMW Assist-equipped and activated 2008 and later X6, produced 4/08 and later, and all BMW Assist-equipped and activated 2009 and later models, except X3.

your bmw assist id is NOT your email address. it can be found in the car as follows. call up start menu. press controller to gain access to I menu. select settings. select bmw service settings. select assist profile. your assist profile of the vehicle is displayed. refer to your comms book <one with the telephone pic on front>, page 24, under heading of <displaying vehicle data - bmw assist profile>. however i did all that and sent the data to my profile BUT i dont know where to find it. called bmw assist but the lady on duty over the bank holiday period did not know and gave me a phone number <0800 325600> to call on Tuesday for an answer

Ok then here we go, :bustingup

Before i did anything inside the X5 i did an online application for BMW assist from the BMW UK website, it takes approx 24/48 hrs to process this.

Next i got an email back from them with my username and password so i could then log onto the BMW assist site and setup my profile etc, After you have done this you then get a text message sent to your mobile phone that you register with BMW assist when you get this text it means the system is live and running. Away you can then go and send google address' to your X5.

Ok so bear in mind that your X5 cant be no more the 3 years old or they will charge you for this service, also you have to register an email address and your mobile phone that you use in your X5 for it all to work ok.

Then when you get into your X5, You go into the BMW assist option which is under the communication menu, and collect your message ie Google address'

Hope this helps guys or PM me....

Having discussed with our technical team at BMW Australia I have found that unfortunately the BMW Assist function is not available in Australia.

Kind Regards

Attached is the latest screen from My Info on my car. If you have signed up with BMW assist, they will tell you to use your e-mail address that you used to register with BMW in the BMW assist account name on the google map section.
By the looks of the countries to choose from, I looks like US, UK, Canada, Austria, Germany, France and Italy are the only countries that can enjoy it at this time.
MY wife loves the concierge service through BMW assist. They find and download to your GPS what you are looking for while you are driving. She cant ever seem to find places when she uses the search function in the navigation system.
