Question about Engine Oil for 3.0D E70

Any body know if there is another brand of Motor Oil besides Castrol that
will work with the 3.0D (E70).
I have heard that due to the particulate filter one can not use any motor oil.

Can someone provide the reason for the strick requirment for the enginer oil ?

Google CJ-4.

The only BMW LL-04 approved oil in North America I'm aware of is Valvoline Synpower. There are other CJ-4 oils out there. Dunno what you have available there or what oil certifications BMW calls for in your region.
