Integrated Smart Phone not working....
I have smartphone option on our 09' X5 4.8. We use iphones and we installed the snap-in cradle. There is no use of the phone as an ipod through the cradle. It does work when plugged up to the ipod cable, but that is something different.
Example: I just started using Pandora (the online radio station). It's great and since my wife didn't want Sirius, it can serve the same purpose. So theoreticaly, I should be able to plug in the iphone - or snap it in - and use Pandora, but it just doesn't work. Anyone have any input or suggestions? Thanks DRP |
Did you order the Smartphone intergration or just the USB option and did you get the right iPhone cradle, there is two types I believe!
The smartphone intergaration is not available here in Australia, only the USB option! |
Also, even if you have the smartphone integration, you can't use the smartphone integration for iPhone applications such as pandora. The audio from pandora will not be passed through the cradle connection. It is only used for the ipod part of the iphone.

I'm not sure about why your smartphone integration isn't working, but just wanted to clear up that you CAN use Pandora or any other application with audio with both the USB or the Smartphone integration. It's how I listen to Sirius Radio without actually subscribing to it in my car.
What you have to do is, after you connect your iphone to the cradle/USB cable and the white "Accessory Attached" screen comes up, hold down the Home button for 10 seconds which will bring you back to your icons. Then you can launch whatever program you'd like and it will play through your speakers. FYI, the Smartphone integration is little more than a cradle/charger as you can't have another device hooked up through USB and switch between the two. The USB always takes precedence and you have to unplug it if you want to hear your phone playing. A bit misleading in how BMW markets it. Chip- |
great point!
I never unplugged the ipod cable when I put the phone in the cradle.
Thanks for the info. DRP |

Thanks for the tip. That worked. How the devil did you find that out? |

On this point, well its better than it was before. In the early days the cradle would not support any music whatsoever. If you wanted to use your iphone for music you would have to take it out the cradle and plug it in to the car via the 6FL connection. By doing so, the phone no longer used the roof top shark fin. |

Nothing like getting Sirius in your car without having to pay another subscription fee! Chip- |
Shhhh
Big Brother is watching. If we discuss free services openly, the loopholes will mysteriously be closed tomorrow! LOL :)
