Fuel Pump Malfunction (X5 35d)
 

This warning comes on intermittently almost every morning. It does not impact the engine performance, at least not so far. I did a Google search and couldn't find much on it - other than a few 335i owners complaining about the same.
Has anyone had the same issue?

Haven't heard about it on the diesel. Get it to the dealer before it leaves you stranded.

Man, BMW really needs to do something about these fuel pumps. I really wanted the 335i or the X5 35d but I was scared away by the fuel pump issue. That's why I stuck with the NA 3.0si.

I've heard some people blame the ethanol content, but does anyone know what exactly is going on with the turbo'ed engine fuel pumps?

35D = Diesel. Nothing similar about the fuel pump issue with the 335. Ethanol isn't a component of diesel fuel.

When your pump going to death you´v got to change the Dieselfilter to remove all filings.

Be very grateful that it is warning you and hasn't just died.

I would be driving it straight to my deal. A fuel pump that dies is not a pleasant experience.

I agree, go straight to the dealer. I haven't had any problems at all with my diesel...

Ya. No probs on mine yet. 6500 miles since March ... touch wood.

**UPDATE**

Brought the car in a few weeks ago. The problem was a "DEFECTIVE OVERFLOW CONTROL VALVE". They replaced it and 1000 miles later the error message has not shown again.

BTW, just did a round-trip LA-San Francisco and got 24 MPG door-to-door with an average speed of 76 MPH. Diesel #1 going up, Diesel #2 going down, with no difference in MPG. Given that I did some passing of cars and was up to 95 MPH at times, I'm happy with the observed fuel economy.

If they use the same pump in the diesel as they do in the regular N54's, you guys will be having problems soon. I'm on my 3rd pump on my 335i already. I have under 25k on the odometer. Bmw send out a mass letter, saying that anyone that has an 06-08 335, gets a 10 year 150,000 mile(i think) warranty on the fuel pumps.
Instead of just fixing the problem, they keep replacing it with the weak pump. lol. If you start experiencing long cranks, then you know the pump is starting to fail.
