LED ANGEL EYES - BEWARE
 

Just a warning to any members contemplating purchasing LED Angel Eyes... particularly the Racing Dash Brand. My advice save your money .. the Quality control and build on these is pathetic.. they are worth about $30 .. even then don't expect them to work or perform as expected.. I'm investigating other options but am back to my GP Thunder halogens for now... :(

Thats sad, it's not like you are not paying, you just want what you pay for, but again any angle you look at it from its screwd up.

To tell you the truth i'am not a big fan of touching anything on a stocked up X.

I believe it should be as it comes out of the factory.

just for interest sake, could you post a picture showing the location of the angel eyes fixture on the back of the main light unit please.
Reason I ask is I cant believe that there is so much difference to the actual light fitting on our X5 if you have either Halogen or Xenon type lights.

james, im using EFX better than your RD. they worth $129 and GP will look pathetic on this setup.

unfortunately i dont have pics on my X5. but look at the setup of my 135i.
they have the same bulb size

I'm experimenting with a setup that will give full power to the H8 Angel eye H8 bulb when the lights are on ... will let you know how I go...The H8 Halogen are far brighter than the leds .

let us know, there is one guy who did this. on M3post but i think they are so expensive..

I've seen that guy Camaroos or something like that .. I've been googlin on it thinking it can't be that hard.. the issue is switchin at 3.3 v when the headlights are on which standard relays will not do... but I think a Solid State Relay will...!!!

Bozz I have the Xenons, You just twist a cap and the H8 bulb is right there as per the manual....I could take a pic if you like....

Where did you get them, and how much?

Notice these advertisement photo's never show the lighting in the daytime or direct lighting? That's because you can not see the L.E.D.'s on in the daytime. I would like to see pictures of a set up in the daytime from at least 50 ft away where you can see these L.E.D.'s and look bright!

AFAIK these are the best and brightest under $130 leds in the market i think.

Yes I read all of those posts and associated posts and the people are complaining about the lack of brightness of the L.E.D.'s. They may be the "brightest" as far as L.E.D.'s are concerned, but they are still not brighter than the stock OEM bulbs. There are also numerous comments echoing my experience that you cannot see them during the day. Yes I am talking about the EFX L.E.D. They are also complaining about the quality and the abundance of code errors, burn outs, yellow flicker, harness heating up and other issues that they are experiencing. For now I will stick with the OEM until a better solution is available.

Something about the burning plastic smell of mine also had me worried....

Hi All, 2nd post here!

I ordered the EFX AngelEyes off eBay and just installed them last week. Below is my day shot of it.

Short Story:
Yes, you cannot see the LED Angel Eyes during the day. It's almost non-exsistent. Yes, I would like it to be brighter (and yes, I did install with the LEDs facing left-right vs. up-down).

Long Story:
I did not like the yellow of the halogen during the day as well as the look of the halogen and xenon during the night. I've never really cared about daytime running lights in the first place, so the fact that you cannot see the LEDs during the day doesn't really bother me. But if there comes a brighter LED, then I will most definitely upgrade. The EFX was very easy to install. No errors and came in a nice box and I received them quickly. There was no instructions, but it was self-evident. There was an adapter/heatsink combo piece that basically looked like a 1"x1"x3" rectangular block with one end connecting to the LED and the other to the BMW light wire. There was a space towards the outside of where the LED is located and I used double-sided tape to secure it to the metal surface there. I will check on it on occasion to make sure it's still secure, but not a big deal as I know double-sided tape on hot metal will not last forever. The space where the LED is located is tight. My hands/fingers were not large enough but luckily I know a girl that's a grease monkey and she did it for me. Overall, <2 minutes to figure out how to open the LED cover on the X5 and remove the halogen, ~5 minutes to figure out where to put the rectangular adapter, ~10 minutes to find the tape, ~5 minutes to install the LEDs and get push the wiring in.

Picture was taken with the sun behind my back. I was kneeling about 3 feet away from the front and it was approx. 2pm.

And yes, in the night they do look like the advertised pictures you see all over. I can post those pics if you're interested, but it looks like what you see on the web.

Hope this helps others make their decisions. I'm perfectly content with this setup until they make a brighter light.

Hope they last longer than my EFX ones did, one of my pair died within a week, and I ended up just installing some GP Thunders (which are at least visible during the day and a lot whiter than stock).

the advantage of EFX is they dont dim. they stayed the same brightness even the headlights are on.

I am throwing in HIDS to my AE shortly... after my front end gets sorted after a rear ender I had this week...
