I just got her a new set of 215 in 20" replica wheels in ferric grey. I thought I would share with you guys. It looks so much better and much more aggressive compared to my stock 18" wheels...extremely pleased with the upgrade. The next step is to get an extension arch flares...and I will order it from DrewX5 tomorrow. Here is the before and after pictures...

love the ferric gray on dark E70s... where'd you get them from and how's the ride feel?

RougeTrooper 07-06-2009 12:58 AM

Very nice man! BTW, what do you use for your detailing? Really looks good

drdudz 07-06-2009 07:18 AM

Outstanding! Where'd you get the wheels and tires? 285 front and 315 rear? TPMS's as well?

Stevev 07-06-2009 11:26 AM

I used to have a stock 18" wheel with RFT, they are horrible, especially when you drive over the bump. I felt like my internal organs are about to jump out of my body ...I felt a big different on my new 20" stagger set-up as soon as I started to drive. The ride is much better and firmer compare to my old stock setup. One that I noticed was the acceleration from the stop and go seem to be a little slower may due to the weight of the wheels and tires.

My top speed on her new shoe so far was 100 mph on the freeway to test for any vibration on her new shoes. There was no traffic on early Saturday morning and so, I decided to give a test drive my new wheels and tires. For safety reason, I do not recommend anyone to drive at this high speed. The wheels and tires are firmer and the handling also improve greatly, imo. Those tires are awesome, they gripped and sticked to the road surface. I have a 275/40/20 for the front and 315/35/20 for the rear with the Vredestein tires.

I got them from this one place in Glendale, California. They have a nice selection of wheels from ordinary to extraodinary wheels. They carry alot of wheels for RR, BMW, Porche, Brabus and Mercedes. They are very knowledgeable and great customer service. It is called SpeedVision Motor Sport, contact # 818-547-0696 and ask for Alen.

Your not copying me, are you?...j/k  nice job.

It looks great! I have 19" sport package with RFT and thinknig about to make the change but I have 3rd row seat without spare tire. I was wondering if you have spare tire option? I guess the 20" tire you got has no RFT. What happen if you get flat tire on the road?

From 19's to 20's....why even bother? Do RFT's or carry a tire repair kit and also BMW roadside assistance got your back 24/7.

Each time I see those 215s..........sigh.........gotta love them!

Cheers,

Because there are no nice styles in 19s and the staggered look makes it appear 10x sportier.

Exactly! 19" is 255/50 all the way and just look too plain.... the only concern I left is how do i deal with all-season or run flat since i got no spare from 3rd row and I go Tahoe (snowing) twice a year.... It would be a pain to swap tire/rims everytime i go Tahoe...

Sweet!

It is amazing how much the right set of wheels can transform a car. Well done. You gotta paint match that front orange side marker now.

Yours looks great as well TaMbAlaMbAdAnGdOnG ;)

^^Yep! Looks clean.

Stevev 07-07-2009 04:29 PM

Thank you all for your comments. The next mod will be an extension wheel arch kit. It will be here on this Friday and I may try to install it over the weekend. I am also planning to change out the kidney grilles into matte black as well.

:iagree:...I must do something with the orange reflectors...

Stevev - need a bit of clarification please: you said that your OEM 18's with runflats were a pretty harsh ride that you didn't like, but then you said that the new replica's were an even firmer ride. So which setup do you prefer? which had the more comfortable ride?

Stevev 07-14-2009 12:29 PM

I definately prefer the new staggered set-up because this set of wheels transformed the look of my truck. The ride on my new set up is so better and more comfortable, especially driving over bumps and uneven road surface. And of course, the driving is definately more pleasurable and fun eventhough, my work place is only 5 minutes drive from home :p:.

y5choi 07-14-2009 03:19 PM

hey, i noticed you didn't stagger the width with the rears, any particular reason?

Nice looking setup though. congrats!

Stevev 07-14-2009 06:41 PM

It is staggered set up: F275/40/20 and R315/35/20.

I understand the visceral "it looks better" feeling, but getting a more comfy ride on 20's with low profile tires than 18's with EMT's is rare :)

Enjoy :)

I just saw speedvision motorsports ads in craiglist and is thinking of getting one. I know you have the option of just getting the wheels for $850 or if you want the wheels and tires (their option were toyo or vredestein (as advertised) with price adjustment. It's good you posted your pics as the photos in the ads were not that vivid and they looked nice (btw, we have the same color 2007 X5). I'm just curious though, what did you do with your stock wheels (and tires?) which btw, we have the same (michelin latitude and the 18" wheel) too. For my part, the tread of my original tires were almost done so i am going to buy new tires anyway.

Stevev 12-11-2009 06:07 PM

You have an option to buy just the wheels only or get the complete package at once. In my case, I just bought the whole package and have them install at the same time to save time.

I sold my stock wheels to one of the members here on the forum.

Is there any concern for buying replica Vs OEM? I think there is a set of OEM wheels (21") for about $3500+ on ebay. Some ads seem to indicate how replicas' quality is not on par. Are replicas usually heavier than OEM?

I have 19" sport wheels with 255s and I am thinking of getting 20" staggered wheels. However, spending almost $4.5-5k for upgrading from 19" to 20" do not make sense for me. Replica with 2k or so price tag sounds more like it.

Thanks,

e92law 01-06-2010 07:22 PM

Looks great. I have a 35d on order and am planning to get the same wheels. Did you swap out your stock TPMS sensors, buy new ones, or go without? I understand that they changed the sensors on all 2010 models so that may be an issue.

Thanks.

Thanks,

all replicas are not equal.... getting the right replicas can have the same quality as OEM. Some reps are just plain heavy.

In general, reps are usually heavier (which increases, usnprung weight) this will drastically reduce performance. As for safety, get the reps that has been certified (TUV etc...). Also, get them in OEM offsets. I prefer OEM's over reps, only because I am anal like that.... :)

Trips 01-07-2010 02:08 AM

hard to beat OEM. love the 215s

I thought the same. But I guess whatever performance difference may result, it probably is not worth $3-4000 difference.

Talking about upsprung weight, I saw a set of OZ wheels at Tirerack and each wheel (20" x 9.5") weighted at 16.8lb. I do not know what stock 20" wheels (or even 19") weight at but 16.8lb would be hard to beat for the size. Too bad it's out of stock.

BGReddy00 01-08-2010 01:26 AM

does anyone have suggestions on where to get good replica's? I was thinking about getting the 214 replica's and having them painted matte black. i have seem them a few places, but only on ebay with a staggered setup...modbargains.com has them, but only 9.5...ive never seen them painted black anywhere either??
