Hi, just got myself a 1.5 yr old E70 3.0si. Been surfing the web for additional add-ons. Seen some very nice Lumma Design body kits. Was wondering any folks out here have it installed on your ride?

How is it? And how much will it cost you to do just body kits (front, side skirts and back bumper). Can you do it without the changing your exhaust since I notice that the valance is cut with a diff specs from mine current exhaust.

Also, been getting very poor petrol consumption. 6.0-6.5km/litre. Is that normal?

Thks for the patience and would welcome any suggestions or help.

Spending $34k on cosmetics for a 3.0l X5 is flat-out retarded. I don't mean to be a dick by saying that, either; 10 years from now you'll look back and agree. The only question is whether you'll have gone ahead with it anyway...

It'd be one thing if you had ridiculous cashflow, but you don't. You're planning this out piece by piece, and by the time you're done, the car will be 'the old body style' anyway, and you'll have not only lost $43k, but depreciated your perfectly-good 3.0l X5 even further. Seriously. Give your alternatives a little more thought...

(I like the look of this one... but definitely not for the money, and without V8 pipes it's like McLovin's voice coming from a pimp).

$43k plus paint and labor? You'd have to be a trust fund millionaire with a terminal illness to justify that sort of coin on any car as mediocre as a 3.0 X5.

Did you know the Cayenne is pretty much universally derided as 'the ugliest vehicle ever', pre-Panamera? Even I didn't see that one coming.

Spending $73k to pimp out a heavy car with a base model engine that's worth maybe $35-40k is the road-going corollary to a fat man in a little jacket. It just is.

I personally love the Lumma look. I just can't justify the price.

Can we even justify the price for our cars? So many of the "smaller guys" are starting to make fabulous looking cars. I even like the Kia Soul for Petes sake. I saw a black one with black rims and was like "wow".

How is that HUD working for you? Do you even use it? Does it distract you? No real difference than the Nav is it (just up on the window)?

And now, the interior (never said I was going to get this, but I do know I'll be getting the mats at least; more than likely I'll do the interior as well, just not the first half of next year). Probably best to keep COST out of this post. LOL

It's pretty clear that a lot of US BMW owners don't know who Lumma, Hamaan, G-Power, AC Schnitzner, etc are. So, I'm posting a few Lumma pics...

I like certain body kits just like th next guy, but I don't see the point of making a car look agressive while being the slowest version available either. I don't know about in Singapore, but mildly fast looking, body kitted, slow assrice rockets (Honda, Nissan, etc), Silverado's, F150's, etc are a dime a dozen in the US.

In the end it will come down to cost vs cool factor for probably 9 out of 10 people, period. Its funny you come here to a public forum, posting your opinions and these prices...did you really ONLY expect praise? You're spending just as much for plastic/fiberglass sa people spend on the ENTIRE car, but as you said, its your money...but to constantly question or even mildly belittle people because they won't spend as much on mods is pointless and childish on your part. Do you think you're going to make some arguement that justifies the cost for YOU in your mind, and then suddenly make one of us convert over? C'mon, you're going to get the good AND the bad, deal with it.

PS - How many times can one person say "lol" in their posts...so far I think you're in the lead for the abusing the worlds most overused acronym.

#1 - I didn't miss the point at all. To each his own as to how much one person wants to spend on mods vs the other. All I'm saying is that the OP is sitting there arguing price and justifying it for HIS needs, but why argue it when it's his needs only? I know of BMW owners with cars who've spent 2x as much in engine mods as the car itself. Whatever though, I could care less because that is his prerogative and I'm not going to try and sway peoples opinions one way or the other like the OP is. You, sir, are missing my point. Just because I'm a car enthusiast doesn't mean I support everyone as I've seen some complete idiots out there as well, and I've got no qualms with letting them know if they ask my opinion. The OP is asking for opinions, but as I said, he's getting all huffy puffy and justifying it...who cares what someone wants to spend their money on, so he doesn't need to justify anything, nor does he need to get all offended if people aren't all on-board with his mod choices. #2 - Maybe I haven't paid enough attention to this thread, but you're not even the OP anyways, so why are you here arguing with me or anyone else for that matter? I've never once told you how to spend your money, I simply said I wouldn't do it. Sarge told the OP (or you, whatever) to not waste the money and invest it, so if you're going to point the finger, make sure you're pointing it at the right person. While I commented on his post with an "I agree", it was more for the statement of wasting money on the bottom line model. To me, that I think is stupid. Why make a car look fast, just to go slow? That's like these idiots out there with ///M badges on 318's and 525's...who in the hell are they fooling? This is personal preference, but I either like complete sleepers, but if it's not a sleeper, I want it to go as fast as it looks. But once again, that's just my opinion. #3 - European cars are far better than American...that's a pretty bold statement considering there are some pretty bad ass American cars out there, but that's going to take us down a while different road in this thread. Americans opt for fuel economy as well, but we don't get as many choices of diesel rigs over there due to different emissions standards, so don't assume we want...it's more or less a lack of options in the US. You generalize quite a bit, don't you? I've owner about 20 cars and I'm on my 3rd bike, I've lived in Europe, so now your assuming instead of generalizing. Who cares what engine it's made for, I'm simply stating MY OPINION to the OP that I think it's a waste to make a base model engined vehicle look all fast and aggressive, just to have...the base model. Sure, I can make a Civic DX look like an Si, but when push comes to shove and I open the hood, I'd laugh at the guy who's trying so desperately to look faster than he really is. For me, I'd rather have a plain Jane 540i vs a pimped out, body kitted 525 that is slower than crap. I've never claimed once to know anything about Lumma, so your argument is even more pointless. I've made my statements based solely on what I've read on this thread and this thread alone, and more-so based on what I think is a waste considering the engine size and the body kits pricing considering what it really is that you're paying for...plastic and fiberglass. I think those kits on the Porsche look great, especially the mat black one. Would I spent that kind of money on plastic and fiberglass, not in this lifetime. Before you do it, please don't go down the "can't afford it road", because I know how much you love assume, generalize and how highly you think of yourself. I'm going to be spending a pretty penny on an M7 bodykit for my 7, and while some think it's a waste, it's a preference for me...but it's also not going to cost me more than say $4000 before it's even painted or installed, and rightfully so considering what ALL these kits are made out of the same stuff. I think it's safe to say that spending upwards of 40, 50, 60 thousand dollars on plastic and fiberglass in 99% of peoples eyes is just stupid. To each their own though.

Out of all these body kits on this whole thread, I still have to give credit to the Porsche kit, pre and post face lift. I've never really liked flared arches, especially on a street car where it's only for looks instead of purpose, like DTM.

For the X5, Lumma charges about $650 USD for a car cover (if I can remember - I have a price sheet on everything). That's about the same for a standard BMW X5 cover, but with a better fit, customizable, and more attractive.

M5 DOOR: is easily purchased from any BMW supplier. Lumma parts are in a completely different category. Lumma doesn't stock most of the things you see. They are customized by one of thier partners and any particular order can take 4-8 weeks (man, its becomes more and more apparent that you dont' even know much about Lumma the more you post ... but you're posted up in a Lumma forum - wow). And regardless of your opinion, I will not order the whole batch at one time. The people at Mstyle, Stricklyforiegn and Roadworks AND Corral Collision Center/Exclusive Motoring already know the deal. Convincing you is neither important or relevant.

That's the thing with Lumma, you can customize it how you want it. Just ask. I think Topcar does thier interiors. I only like the black leather along the seats and dash, nothing else.

Parts may be here in another 4-6 weeks. Still waiting. Ordered Aug 14 (after nearly 3 months of getting the order right) and it takes 4-8 weeks for delivery. Will definiately take pictures. I've already contacted 3 photographers who are listed on South Florida BMW meet (soflobmw.com). It was suggested that I wait, but I want to take pics of before, during, and after pics so that anyone considering the kit will SEE what is done and how it is done. Still waiting.

Ignoring the pun, I actually DID consider painting it roasted pumkin. I also considered off-white (cream). But, I'll leave it black sapphire. Too many "orange" cars in S. Florida and "white" cars look terrible after a few years - can see every dark stain, etc.

There are ALWAYS going to be ppl who love or hate a mod or a look. Some people like Lumma, some like G-power, some like Hamaan ... some like the stock areo kit. Me? I celebrate EVERYTHING that is BMW ... and the people who mod them ... whether I like the mod or not. At least they are doing SOMETHING. But then again, different cultures I suppose. What is important to the left is not concern to the right. I respect the differences.

It is an M5. That interior cost about $33,000USD. The exterior cost about $42,000. So ultimately, the M5 overall is more than a $100,000 investment. But, that is how it is done in Europe.

White shows dark stains? That's new to me. BTW...black shows scratches like no other, but having a garage full of hairline scratches and dark stains is how I do.

You love making that statement...sounds like you'd probably be better off and happier just going back, then that wouldn't have to be your arguement while you're in the United States of America.

Next time you remember (while driving), actually LOOK at the older white cars. They have yellow and brown stains all over them, as if the dirt baked its way into the paint. To me, white just doens't look good after a few years.

I guess ur right about the scratches on black. Mettalic effect is supposed to help reduce the look of dings and scratches, etc. I don't have them on my paint because I do not tailgate people on the highway, and don't go on the highway much anyway, and whenever I do, I spray the front with WD40 so that bugs and other particals do not stick, or simply glide off when they hit the front. Also, it can help to "cover" the nicks and scratches that are already on the car. I also do not use buffers or old rags (which can cause swirls). I change my car equipment every 4 months (or as needed). And if I were to ever drop anything on the ground, I'd throw it right into the trash because even a few grains of sand stuck in sheep wool or a sponge is garuanteed to scratch paint. In fact, I don't even park in direct sunli9ght. I always park in the shade, even if its further away from my destination, and there's no way I'd take my car to a manaul car wash. Those amatuers just don't know...

Can we please retire the word "hater"? That along with these body kits is very Fast and Furious, a trend that stopped being cool over 10 years ago.

Nope. But you haven't been paying attn anyway - noticed that a long time ago. In LUMMA forums I've posted LUMMA material: parts, service, time frames, pictures and even costs - all of which are clearly relevant. I clearly said that I was ordering part by part deliberately and I clearly said why. Ordering from Germany is too much of a pain for me to try and manage EVERYTHING all at once. Don't have the time for that. I also clearly stated that much of what I'm doing and what Lumma offers is CUSTOMIZED - parts either have to be sent from me to Germany or they buy the parts from BMW, the parts are then shipped to Lumma, Lumma then ships the parts to thier respected partner to perform the customization, then the parts are sent to SF warehouse, THEN the parts are shipped (sea) to SF Stateside, THEN the parts are sent to me. I already knew that certain orders would take up to 30 days while others up to 3 months. So them giving me the run around isn't a thought. Further, being a preferred banker ensures that either I get the correct parts unspoiled, or I get my full amount of $$$ back ... even on "non returnable" and "non cancellable" orders. Period. I sent that email about the time to put some heat on the order because I want to have my project completed by February or March. I've already started lining up the car shows for next year.

I think Lumma looks great on the X5, the M3, M5, M6, etc. I love it on the Porshe vehicles as well. Problem is, some of you "veteran" posted are in Lumma forums but its evident you don't even know much about it. The only thing I don't like dressed in Lumma is the X6 - Hamaan tops the chart on the X6 (to me). I will ALWAYS celebrate everything BMW, just as I will always celebrate a modding company who puts out good work. Fact is, I like Lumma. I'm not one who is going to hate on someone just because they are doing something to thier car ... even if I don't like it. I don't like the G-Power on the X5 - at all. But I'd love to meet someone who actually takes on the project. And I wish I could meet more people who do heavy customizations to thier BMW here in S. Florida so that we can all roll out to the BMW meets. But, some of you "pretenders" really aren't up on BMWs or modifications. Your worlds revolve around a car garage ... and thats it. I only wish there was a car club here in S. Florida like Swift Car Club over in Cali (youtube it).

I don't mind opinions, but approval? Please. I know there are others who go into forums, post pictures or ideas and then ask "what do you guys think?" I never asked that question because a strangers approval is so unimportant to me, it doesn't even hit the radar.

Cool, I can appreciate that - I certainly respect it. I even agree with it. But I don't think that is what 'haters' say.

As far as my family is concerned, I'm putting my wife through grad school and I pay my sons school fees alone, and have been doing it for years. In fact, he has more $$$ right now that will be applied to his college EDU than I had as a working young adult. So, again, this is a PROJECT, not something that will sacrifice the well being of my family. They are already taken care of.

I'm going back to Vista BMW today. I test drove the Special BMW lease and finance offers: Vista BMW Coconut Creek (Ft Lauderdale). Nation's leading BMW new car dealer: BMW factory authorized service and repair shop, BMW parts and accessories and BMW Certified Pre-Owned used cars. yesterday and liked it. So, a buddy of mine (2011 M3 owner) and I are going back. I'm thinking of scooping that X6 cause I think it's a good deal. Guess what I'll do to THAT one? Hamaan or AC Schnit. lol

I know that a lot of ppl post to get other peoples opinions and even thier approval or advise. I don't. There isn't any enthusiast that I know who looks for approval. This is the project, and this is how we proceed. The only advise we really want or look for, is if there is a more affordable way to do it AND if the parts are as durable as we need them to be.

... still waiting on the Lumma parts ... 2 months and counting. And now Lumma is closed for 6 weeks over the Christmas period.

Phase 2 underway. Everything done except the kit itself and the wheels.

Have mats, pedals, bonnet, emblems, rear badge.

Car going in shop in probably a month (closing on house in 2 days). Time to wrap this up.

Decided on the Hamaan concave wheels. More exp than the Lumma, but there wont be an X5's here with those shoes.

Some people have a wild sense of humor and a lot of money. That's all I can figure. It's definitely 'Bozo'.

Dood. If you're ordering parts one at a time, and it takes them months each time you order... Is there anyway the left side is going to match the right side by the time you want to sell it? A real baller would just pull the f'ing trigger and be done with it... right?

You don't even really own an X5 though. This is just a social experiment by someone at U Miami undergrad. Right?

Not really "1 at a time." You can't think I'd order 1 floor mat, then 1 emblem, then half the grill ... That's just insane.

What I ordered were the grill + window trim + mirror extention and mirror covers (and flat roof railings but they are discontinued) in the same order (titanium matt). I think I ordered the entrance borders, pedals and floor mats with this.

Before that I ordered dark Euro tailights + eyelids and rear eyelids. Again, all "matching" parts ordered at the same time.

The last thing I ordered was the bonnet, Lumma badge, and they sent me thier lastest design mats for free (cause I complained about the first set).

So, far as anything being "mixed up", well, there isn't anything unmatching on my car. It would be impossible anyway considering most of what I order needs to be prep'd and painted on my end anyway. Lumma doesn't do "one piece at a time" The window trim and front grill comes as a unit for that very reason. I special ordered the mirror extension with it.

Baller? LOL I'm pushing 40, not 25. Little older. Little wiser. I'm married with child, not a bachelor doing my own thing. Been there, done that. And the fact that I've already put another $15K+ untop of the sticker price of my car doesn't make me a "baller" ... though that is what a couple of my friends called me. So what? It's not the first time. But, I don't watch that stuff.

Terms of OWNING my X5. lol, feel free to call BMW in Ft Lauderdale and ask for Carol Yasso. Ask her if any males ordered and purchased a brand new black saphirre BMW X5 in January 2009 - CASH PAY. $65,000 thrown out just like that. Like it aint nothing. So, if that's your definition of "not owning" something, well, I'd like to see anyone try to take it from me, banks included. Or, if that's your definition of "balling", so be it. I call it a blessing. It's a blessing cause I was ABLE to do it. Couldn't do it now though. I just spent as much as an X5M on my house in the last 5 months. So again, you can call that ballin or not. Doesn't matter in my world. I'm just thankful to God that I have the ability to do it where so many in this economy haven't even worked in over 2 years.

And to address the sarcasm about some Undergrad. I personally am past taht point too. Aspirant for a Doctorate wheneter I so choose. But still, if some college kids could take over the project and complete it, I wouldn't mind in the least. And that is what makes me different from so many people who own BMWs in SoFlo. Why buy a car and then don't drive it cause of miles, or gas? I just stratched the roof extension of my car cause I drove into my garage with the back opened (was operating on 2 hours sleep). I simply shrugged my shoulders and figured I'd get that fixed, along with the minor dings in the front, and the scratch on my side mirror ... when I put the car in the shop to have the bonnet painted and installed.

I agree. Lot of problems when ordering from Germany, especially when they are CUSTOMIZED. In fact, there is a reason why some of the parts I have are not found on eSF webpage - I custom ordered them. They sent me a "secret link" to place the order, but the items aren't up for general purchase. Ask them if you want to. Can't be that many ppl who have have been ordering Lumma parts for an X5 through them. In fact, according to them, there is only ONE other X5 in USA that has a Lumma kit. A white one.

But the real reason for going slow is ... dumping $35+ grand untop of a sticker price for a car project will not set well with the wife. However, pouring $75 grand into a house is just fine with her. SMH and smile. Women. If you're married, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. If your not, well, a bachelor lives on a different frequency from me. Where you are, I've been, so don't talk to me like I've never brought out the bar, or never smoked the highest grade. CAll it whatever you want to, it happens regardless.

I seriously don't know how you do it.

I bought my X5, put 30k+ miles on it, and traded it in before you've even finished the world's slowest, most expensive customization project on an X5 3.0 ever.

Given the pace of things with you, you did choose the right motor. I'll give you that. You're definitely winning at 'not-in-a-hurry'.

... I'll get to it when I get to it. Maybe next week, maybe next month, maybe next year, maybe never. Maybe i'll saw the car in halfif I ever wake up and feel so inclined to do so. It's mine - I can do whatever i want. Family comfort/enjoyment, retirement and sons EDU come first.

In terms of engines, well, there was no turbo option or X5M back then. You know this. Could've gotten the Jaguar XF SC, or the X6, but there is no practicality in a husband/father/home owner owning a 4 seater. It's funny how quickly ppl forget that we were at the crust of a BAD ECONOMY and car manufacturers were making the most economical vehicles back then. Fact. How quickly things change. Now, everyone seems to be making something that gives you whiplash from one stoplight to the next. Next battle is probably going to be who makes the lightest vehicles. Still, I shrug my shoulders and drive along comfortably in my X5.

My tip to you: don't envy ballers. How many entertainers, actors or athletes have lot their millions because of "ballin"? Trust me, I've made it rain, bought out bars, smoked the highest grade (yeah you po-pos, that is PAST TENSE!), purchased a brand new home in ATL (cash), purchased this car, put 20% down on this FL house and spent another arm and leg on furnishing ... and the house is still kinda empty. lol Kinda taxed financially, not making what I used to, but thankful to be working and earning what I do ... and thankful that my wife has gotten back to her Financial Controller position. My lil man is healthy, but he needs a college education. My folks are getting older, my dad is retired, my sister if of little help, and land tax and insurance bills don't care. This car is a hobby. But there are more important things in life than a car hobby. these days, i'd rather play my XBOX or work around the house than give attention to the car. THAT'S what's up.

Curios. If you had a remote control car that cost you $150, would you care if you spent $10 on paint and another $45 on a higher grade motor? Probably not. So, when you say that you don't care what someones financial circumstance is, it's because your PERCEPTION of their reality isn't the same. These guys are MILLIONAIRES. They are less effected by kitting out their cars than you would be with that remote control buggy.

Me personally, I don't care what anyone does with THEIR money. If they spend 75K on a wrist watch, it's all good. I don't hate. They're keeping someone employed somewhere. Oh, and my wife told me that a client at her job flew from Fort Lauderdale to Boca Raton for $8,000!!! Let me bring some perspective on that. I drive from Ft. Lauderdale and I work in Boca Raton. It's a 30 minute drive. That executive spent EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS to fly what is probably a 10 minutes trip via plane.

So, again, when you say that ppl are crazy for their spending habits regardless of their financial situation, that is because of your perception and your reality. Their reality really doesn't care about our opinions. You couldn't even sway they to change cause what you think it a lot of money is that $10 on paint for a R/C buggy ... or even less worth to them.

At my wifes previous job, her boss was the CEO's personal accountant (seemingly). That man was throwing out THOUSANDS on his lady friends. I'm talking 20-40K a pop just on gifts and crap. That man probably doesn't even know what "ballin" means, and probably cares even less to be called a "baller." That's his reality.

I'm sorry...am I missing something (not tring to be a dick). Is that a before picture? I'm not seeing $15k in mods on that X5. Tinted tails, Eyelids, m roof rails, and some window trim. If that's $15k, that Lumma 5hit is ridiculously expensive.
