squeaky sound from driver's door

Only recently, I am getting this squeaky sound coming from the driver's side door panel. At first, I thought it was the arm rest on the side of the door getting loose. But seems like the black plastic inserts on the armrest of the door is the problem. This is the part which you hold on to when u are closing the driver's side door whilst sitting inside the car. Not sure if it is design flaw but notice that there are gaps around the black insert. When the car moves, it squeaks.

Anyone encountered that? Any fixes?

I think I've encountered the same problem, but haven't been able to isolate it yet. Mine only squeaks sometimes but is rather annoying. I was planning to take it in to the dealer and ask them to look at it. Would appreciate any thoughts before doing so.

If the door handle pull that you close it with seems a hair loose, odds are someone tried removing the screws that hold it on while trying to remove the panel for working on something in the door. I'd carefully remove the trim strip on the handle, remove the panel and tighten the nut and bolt back tight. (should be a torx screw and 10mm nut)

I'm having the exact same problem. Started about 2 months back. Thought I was the only one....

A few of us have discovered the source of the problem is actually from the black plastic at the bottom (side) of the driver's seat. If you shift it around a bit (it does move), you should be able to get it to stop. To test, you can shift your weight around in the seat beforehand and see if you can replicate the sound.

The door seems solidly built so creaks are less likely from there.

I have these rattles. At my last service appointment, they discovered the problem quite easily, and it was fixed for a day. But they are back in full force. They mentioned the door handles as the culprit.

this just popped up for me last night and I am losing my mind. Is there a DIY for removing the E70 driver door panel? (I searched and found diagrams on realOEM but that's it). It looks pretty sophisticated and I don't want to screw it up, but I would like to see the innards of the door/window.

My "rattle" is coming from the top portion of the door, closer to the front, most prominent w/window up (i think).

Thank you.

Joe 2008 4.8 (that just went out of original warranty but is still cpo)

edit: this looks pretty good!

if anyone has upper door rattle ideas please let me know. Seems that there are pretty prevalent.

I had the same problem on both front doors. Took it to the dealer twice and both times they applied silicone to some rubber seal inside the door panel. Both times the problem stopped but slowly came back after 3-4 months. The third time, they installed a teflon tape of some sort and that did the trick. No more squeaking. Same thing happened to the wife's X5.
