seafoam...?
 

everyone raves about this. should i feed this to the e70 as a preventative maintenance? it also acts as fuel stabilizer so i guess it can't harm anything right?

yeah but to my defense these seafoam threads are in e53 section. i thought i start one in e70 because it's a different car.

No defense needed...Seafoam is a product that has about a 50-50
fan base, on this and other auto boards. I don't think the fans or
skeptics, are specific engine oriented. Does your E70 have that many
miles on it already, that you feel the need for that product?

I have used Seafoam occasionally in my 1994 Grand Cherokee. The way I have used it was to feed 1/3 of a can by using the vacuum suction line that normally goes to the master cylinder. I would feed it until the engine died and would let it sit for 5 min before starting it up. I did noticed it seemed to idle smoother for a few weeks.

But I more enjoyed the white smoke that would make neighbors think the house was burning down :D

I also have a Mercedes-Benz CLK430 (MY 2000) and have never used Seafoam on that, since I always put good gas and kept up the maintenance regularly at the dealer.

Doubt you'd need it in the E70, which will hopefully replace my Jeep later this year when the 2010 arrives

oh i only intend on putting seafoam in the gas once a year. doing that crazy way in the vacuum suction is beyond my comfort level lol

Put me in the 50% who believe that it has no redeeming qualities in a modern engine, and that yes, it can harm things.

BMW designed the engine, and the fuel and lubrication systems, and they specifically advise not adding any additives such as these. Maybe they know something about engine design?

perhaps they did it because they wanted to avoid any potential warranty scams. a person can put in too much fuel additives and cause problems. bmw didn't want to deal with that so they just outright said no fuel additives whatsoever.
