'09 X5 diesel - any reviews?
 

What's the word on the diesel - good, bad, indfferent?

I'd love to hear any comments and reviews.

Almost overwhelmingly positive from the major magazines, and a handful of happy owners here as well.

Ours:

* Black Sapphire w/Saddle Brown two-tone interior
* 2 months old tomorrow
* Bought it new with only 4 miles on it
* Every option except the rear entertainment and 3rd row seat! (w/212s)
* Now have 1450 miles on it (inside tail pipes are clean enough for white glove inspection - no joke, perfectly clean)
* Avg around 25.5 miles/gal in mixed driving
* COULDN'T BE MORE THRILLED - wish I bought ( wish I could afford) two!

Stickered at almost 68k, but they discounted it quite a bit. This diesel pulls like a freight-liner - be prepared for very fast low-rpm acceleration.

I liked my test drive so much that I ordered one. It'll be here in 5 more agonizingly painstakingly slow weeks. I concur that the diesel powerplant is a torque monster. When you're behind the wheel you would never imagine that it is fuel efficient, too. No diesel smell, very little clatter (not noticeable once you're inside). The factory is offering a $4500 incentive which I believe lasts another month. It was the easiest decision that I have ever made.

I just hit 4k miles on mine, I could not be happier with it, great MPG, awesome torque, very fun to drive.

Three weeks and 1,000 miles later, having a great time!

Haven't reset onboard data yet, avg 24.7 mpg. Granted I've been taking it easy, and mix of some hwy and mostly city, but come on... nearly 25 mpg from a 5,300 lbs vehicle... you've gotta love it! Step on it, and you'll know the torque is there, just waiting for you.

No issues, just planning switch to winter tires (brand and RFT or Non-RFT).

is it true you can write them off when doing taxes

If purchased in 2009 calendar year, the feds give $1,800 tax credit for the X5 35d. I double-checked with the IRS and they confirmed it (it's in the bowels of their website).

I hope they gov. continues this for 2010 as well! It's too bad I'm not ready to buy yet ... all the incentives are so good!

My wife picked hers up on Friday and loves it so far. The combination of fuel efficiency, power, and utility is completely unmatched in anything else out there. The fact that they are so heavily discounted right now plus the tax credit only sweetened the deal. One of the dealers in town had a special sales event Saturday and they were offering well-optioned X35Ds for $10K off MSRP (sticker of $59K, selling price of $49K).
