Left front wheel threads almost gone after 25,000

My E70 has been running on 20" of run-flat Dunlop tires since the beginning. After 25,000 km on the road, notice that the front left tire is almost bald. Check the rest of the 3 tires and all seems to be ok. Don't think the tires are under inflated as I checked them every 2-3 months. No warning lights too

What could be the cause? Strange thing is only front left tire that is worn-out. Any ideas?:dunno:

Both my front tires are pretty worn now after only 23,xxx. I just think the rubber wears out fast, especially when you make a lot of turns. (going fast...) Your camber could be slightly off or ride height. If the truck seems to favor one side more than the other, one trend will be less.

Im getting a check up soon for brake fluid and see how much they will charge me. Probably something ridiculous...

Thks for the feedback. Since u brought up brake fluid, mine is also due for top-up too. Another piece of info, the front brake pads are due for change in 2,000 km as well. The rear still have another 20,000km to go. Since E70 is a full-time 4W-drive, why is the front so different from the rear?

well Speed Racer, you are obviously hammering your X5.:D

the front brakes take most of the abuse as the weight transfer upon braking moves forward. rear brakes are more for stabilization of that transfer. brake bias.

on a track car the left front usually takes more abuse than the right front. not sure what you are doing on the street to cause this. but whatever it is, keep it up. drive it like ya stole it!!!!!!!

Get an alignment.

Thks for all the advice!!

I finally brought it to a tyre shop to do the wheel alignment. This guy uses a Hunter system that hooked up your wheels with a reader that can get you alignment readings through wireless signals. Pretty cool.

I was told that only my rear wheels camber (especially the rear left) needed some adjustment. The fronts are as good as new. Was also told that it could be the fast cornering that I have taken that wore out the outer front left rubber, especially on "right-hand drive" roads.

Anyway, with the new tyres fitted, will monitor them closely.

The outside front tire is subjected to a lot of 'shoulder' scuffing in tight turns even at low speeds. One possibly overlooked source of uneven tire wear can be much closer to your home/office. For example, a tight circular driveway (or tight parking garage turns/ramps) that you always drive in one direction -- every day.

I always look for tires that have 'strong shoulders' (i.e. lots of rubber on the outer edges) to counteract this wear.
