Where to buy 20" 214 wheels?

I bought an alpine white 09 4.8 today and take delivery next week. My dealer tried locating a car with the 20" wheels, but couldn't find one with the color combo I wanted (alpine white/black). I was hoping to get a set of rims by the time I take delivery.

I read as many threads as I could find on replicas vs. oem. Seems like Morristown BMW has the best deal on OEM wheels only ($1,700?), what are my choices for replicas? Is there any discernible difference?

Thanks!

TaMbALoLoNg 07-25-2009 06:31 PM

Contact LI-X5. He has 215's 21" for sale with TPMS. Its a sweet deal. 21" is the way to go imo. Congrats on your X

I will keep them in mind, but I prefer the look of the 214 and the 20" tires are much more reasonable. Thanks.

You mentioned you BOUGHT (not leased) a 4.8, have you seen a live 21" wheel with 325/30's on the rear? Its a beast. All i'm sayin is dont short change yourself over a few bucks. Do your homework then decide;)

I have seen both and prefer the look of the 214, thanks though.

I bought mine from Wheels and caps (Ebay) $699 for the set.
They match the size and look of OEM 214's, and most important, no steering wheel vibration or shimmy.

Anyone try these:

Luck of the draw, I had a problem with 2 of their rims - 1 out of round, 1 warped, which they've rectified, but I had to end up paying full price for one of them (long story).

jarodl 07-25-2009 11:12 PM

I plan on having them installed at the dealer, so hopefully if there is a problem they catch it then.

Anyone else to consider beside wheels and caps and IRG?

TaMbALoLoNg 07-26-2009 10:45 AM

Check with Eurotech Luxury Wheels homebased in San Diego.

When I google them the only thing I see are horror stories. I didn't even see the 214 style rims listed. Have you dealt with them?

mtech8 07-26-2009 08:07 PM

Just my opinion- don't get the 214's! They are a pain to clean. Go for the 128's. Gonna sell my set when the tires wear out and I replace everything with 128's. Too bad your in NY. Shipping kinda kills a good price. Plus not quite ready yet (only 13000 on them now. Hoping to get another 5000-10000 miles).

jarodl 07-26-2009 08:24 PM

Thanks but only interested in 214s.

I lease and OEM is the way to go. But then again, I ordered my car with these wheels.

Have you considered BMW of Newport or Tischer BMW? They offer 25% off and no sales tax, if you don't live in the state or RI or NJ, respectively.

Does the car need to be re-aligned when switching from the stock 18's to the 214's?

No. A car only needs to have an alignment done when you alter the suspension. A new set of wheels does not warrant a new alignment.

Thats your opinion. I beg to differ, although an allignment in not mandatory it is highly encouraged especially with +2 or+3. I've gone from 17-20 and 18-21 and always took time for an allignment in addition to the wheel balance. Its just a good practice besides its not gonna hurt to do it;).

If you want to spend the money, be my guest. If you go to a good place that uses a Hunter Road Force Balancer, only deals with high end wheels and takes the time to mount and balance your wheels properly, I see no need to spend the money. If you take it to slop shop, then you might want to consider.

As for me, I've never done an alignment on any of my M's or X's in the past, when it comes to wheel changes. And I do a lot of high end wheel changes throughout the life of my cars. However, once I tune the suspension (which always ends up happening ), I'll have an alignment done. That's a must.

To the OP - Your call...

Thanks guys, where can I order the wider fender arches online?

I would order from Garry Romani (Parts Manager) at BMW of Newport (RI) or Tischer BMW in NJ.

First, if you say you're an E60.net member, you'll get 25% off. Sometimes 35%, but at minimum it's 25%. You'll also pay no tax, assuming you don't live in either of those states. And shipping is cheap and fast.

I've ordered from Garry for the last 5 years on all my OEM parts. He's outstanding and his prices are so low!

I like the 128's also, maybe I can buy yours after you're ready...depending on the price. I'm partial to 22" 214's after seeing this pic, and then I finally found them on ebay....

Sounds right. I ordered mine from Tischer and they were less than that I think...

Don't forget rivet gun...see thread link below

The dealer is installing them before I pick the car up.

rh71 07-29-2009 11:57 AM

Cost just under $200 if you find it on ebay, about $225 from a dealer including the plastic rivets which you will definitely need since you can't reuse the old ones.

BTW, there needs to be an FAQ section on these commonly changed parts... because these are really FAQs. There's numerous threads on how to install it yourself too, before you ask. ;)

Where in NY are you and which dealer?

BCA 07-29-2009 12:13 PM

Part #51770421056 is the kit that includes all 4 flares and all the necessary plastic rivets. I got mine in January from Tischer (getbmwparts.com) for $117.56 and it's still listed at that price today.

That is at least $100 cheaper than when Morristown was a vendor here... amazing.

us_matrix 07-29-2009 02:59 PM

I just got a quote from Morristown BMW for $120.

I've got chrome Beyern Mesh staggered 20's on my 7 now, but it's just too much for a black car. I got them for $800 off Craigslist w/ nearly new tires, so I can't complain. I really like the Vorsteiners in flatblack, but painting my chrome Beyerns would be such a bitch.

I'm just really partial to that white X w/ the gray/black wheels....sexy but still clean.

Thanks, I ordered the 214s and wheel arches. They will be installed before I pick the car up on Friday. Also having the front windows tinted to match the rears before pickup.

I've tried to Google the name that is ghosted over the picture, but no such luck. I'd like to see more just so I can add them to my screensavers.

jarodl 08-02-2009 06:25 PM

I picked up the car on Friday, had the 214s (from wheels and caps), fender flares and front tints put on. So far, the wheels seem fine.

Decided against the aero kit, not a fan on white cars. Anyone know where to get all weather front floor mats to put over the carpet ones? Any good V1 hardwire installs? I saw the EAS mount but it doesn't look like it works on E70s.

Thanks for all the help.

chile1 08-02-2009 09:38 PM

I purchased my Style 214's from www.eurowheelspro.com (formerly PowerWheelPro). Great price and even better service.

Can you post some picture with 214 style on? How do you like the ride so far compare with stock 18"? Does the Toyo tire rubbing the front fedner when you making turn?

I hardwired my V1 the same way I did it on my M5. I used the courtesy lighting wires (green and yellow wire) and grounded it to one of the mounting screws. I have the V1 positioned just next to my rear view mirror. It's the same spot where I mount it on the M too. Looks great and is concealed.

If there are no hardwiring instructions on this forum, check out M5Board or E60.net.

I never drove the car with the stock 18s on it. I have not had any problems with tires rubbing so far.

Nice Photoshop job...I just noticed these pics! I like the nose of the X5 w/ the led strips in it. I wonder if they make anything for the E53 to make mine look more muscular like that?
