If you are under warranty, it is a quick replacement - so the key is not recut, it is just the fob itself that is replaced. BMWs report back was that the internal sensors had malfunctioned - but this was communicated verbally to me.

I think the keyfob fails...
 

when you pull the metal key out of the key fob too many times. Anybody else have the same problem without pulling the key out?

I`ve done that allot - no problem so far in the other cars.

My e92 M3 had the problem with one of the keyfobs. I charged it and had the dealer replace the battery. Still same problem. I think it must be the keyfob being defective and not anything else as the other keyfob works fine.

Hehe.. dumb question. But how do I access the battery in the keyfob? Just got the battery discharge warning a few days ago. Not sure where my manual is either.

Pull out the small metal key. Holding the remaining (larger) part, look for a small flap at the end where the hole is, which pops out with a small screwdriver or knife blade. Hard to miss.

Easy. Remove the valet key. On the back of the key there is an almost square cover. The easiest way to pop teh cover off is with a screwdriver or butter knife blade, placed in the slot by the tab that holds the now-removed valet key in place. Pop the cover off and you'll see the battery.

Got it. I did see the slot you were mentioning, but didn't want to go prying and end up breaking the key. From the sides of the "larger" part, it looks like that can be pried and split into two also.

Comfort Access, you will need to change the battery because it is NOT rechargable by putting it in the ignition.

NON-COMFORT ACCESS keys will charge when you have them in the ignition and driving the car.

I have read that the CA fobs have two batteries, one can be replaced and the other recharged.
