Headlight Haze

I've reported this before... I have a haze inside my Xenon headlights (2007 E70 model).. I just had my car repaired and a new headlight was installed. The new one is crystal clear.. and now I have a mismatched headlight set if you look at them both closely.... Has anyone claimed this under warranty.. I actually think it is a defect.. Anyone eles that has a 2007/2008 seen the same kind of thing ? I noticed that the new headlight is a newer model as the manufacturer logo on the headlight lense is much smaller than the original. I'll try and post some pictures shortly .. I did report the haze to the dealer a couple of months back and they said it was "normal' for this to occur... given that Xenons here must have washers and self levellers (as do all X5's) to prevent a build- up of dirt on the cover that could disperse the light, it may in fact be a roadworthines issue as the haze is very noticeable....and it does disperse the light beam...

I have the same issue on the upper inner edge of my driver's side headlamp assembly - 2004 4.4 X5. It was just in the body shop for unrelated front end damage and they would not repair/replace the headlamp assembly under CPO - it was undamaged in the wreck. My SA said it was normal aging and quoted me a price of $1100.00 +/- for a new one. I'll just wait to hit another deer and aim left this time.

Thanks... I'd be interested to see any E70 owners with the issue as well... it could actually be the outside polycarbonate cover.. I'm going to try annd polish a small part to see if that fixes it... :dunno:

I wouldn't expect a headlight to haze over so quickly, but I suppose it might depend upon where you drive and what pollutants and road grime your particular vehicle sees.

I just noticed this on the 07 CPO X5 that I purchased last month. I intend to try to get it replaced by the dealer. If they refuse, I have no problem filing suit (as a lawyer) against BMW for the repairs under warranty. If anyone else has this problem and either got it fixed or the dealer refused, I'd love to know as it may help all of our causes on this issue.

UPDATE... I polished the headlight with some Zaino clear plastic polish .. the haze is gone.. it was on the outside of the lens...:D

2008 x5, I had the haze too. In 2010 I was able to polish it out. And put those lens protectors on it. So far the Haze hasn't come back and if my 1998 z3 with similar protectors is any indicator, it will stay clear.

Hello,

What lens protectors are you talking about? My 2003 X5 has serious headlight haze, and i want to prevent this on a new X5.

Thanks

I got clear urethane headlight shields from BMW Parts and BMW Accessories | Bavarian Autosport. You can search your year and model there for ones cut to fit your light shape.
