Center Console Knee Pads like X6

Anyone know if you can order the center console piece to get the knee pads like in the X6? It looks like its a part that just sits on top of the console so easily swapped. I'd need it in the black nappa leather. Any know the part number?

The X5M will have knee pads. I would think the X6 is more or less the same. Here are the part numbers for the X6...List price $245.99 each!

For vehicles with
Leather "Nappa/black"
NASW=Yes
11 LEFT KNEE PAD SCHWARZ 1 51169135183 $245.99
11 RIGHT KNEE PAD SCHWARZ 1 51169135184

Thanks. Expensive. But they do make the interior more sporty.

you'll need knee pads just to buy the knee pads.

StumpyPete 08-20-2009 12:24 PM

you'll probably need the part labelled no.10 as well. It looks to be contoured specially for them

King 08-20-2009 11:13 PM

Actually I looked at a friend's X6 today and it is indeed different! The X6 console is contoured differently than the X5.

The X5M has knee pads so you might be better off waiting and ordering the one that will work. I am waiting for the carbon fiber trim! :D

Did any of who end up doing this mod on an X5?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, apart from the costs, there is another issue:

I have a 50i LCI (prod.date 07/2010) and at least for this model (don't know about others, but assume that they are identical in this regard) the parts simply don't fit. The pads themselves are to be screwed onto the console mount (a part not shown in the drawing above, but rather here: RealOEM.com * BMW E70N X5 50iX Carrier, centre console ).

However, that part in my car not only has no holes, but is also entirely flat so that the "arms" of the pads have nowhere to rest. As a result, you can't fit #10 into place. I assume that the mount in the X6/X5M has some "pits" or holes into which the "arms" of the pads and their screws go. I think the part in question is #51166954939 - but why on the other side this very part is also listed for the X5M is beyond me... They must be different.

Nevertheless, I "fixed" this for my car. Took a saw and removed the front and back "arms" of the pads so that they no longer require the "pits". Disadvantage being that without the screws the pads are not as securely fixed as in the X6/X5M, but since they sit on part #1 (and the console mount below) and are held down by #10, they are imho rock stable anyway. Stability is, in my opinion, not an issue in any case because I never actually touch the pad with my knee, no matter how hard I try and no matter how loose I keep my leg ;)

:worthless: of this mod

Sorry, I didn't take any pics during the modification. And I will certainly not take the whole thing apart again, sorry ;)

MRV99 05-03-2011 02:05 AM

Can you snaps some pics of the completed installed. Just want to see the fit and finish. I would never ask for you to recreate a DIY.

Well, the finished result looks like the original installation in an X6 or X5M. Here is a pic.

E53BX 05-03-2011 02:38 PM

how much would all pieces come out to?
definitely looks good.

Wienaren 05-03-2011 02:53 PM

Well, since I had no idea that the parts needed modification, about half an hour including the time it took to figure out how to do it. Sawing away the unneeded parts then took max 5 mins, the jigsaw went through the plastic like a knife through butter. I recommend protecting the leather during this process, since the jigsaw might touch it accidently, and it's easily damaged. The most complicated part was fitting #10. Since this part is very wide in the rear end and easily collides with the cup holders' rear end, I had to fiddle a bit to get back in. But no big deal.

If someone posts a picture of the "raw" knee pad part(s), I can show you what parts exactly I cut off.

/Thomas

Wienaren 05-04-2011 06:04 AM

Sorry, misread the last post... Well, you need part #10 and the two pads. I bought the stuff last fall already, I don't recall. Wasn't too cheap, tough.

NOX 3.2 05-08-2011 10:19 AM

Wow, it looks very good.
Your X is nice, fully loaded.
The new pads will hold my cell phone better when I leave it on top of the tray.
Doe anybody knows if the pads come in Oyster color?

Wienaren 05-09-2011 04:02 AM

I think so.

Just added the Knee Pads to my X5 4.8i

This was an easy mod, looks awesome and ran about $350 to complete...

Sorry to bump this old thread up but can you please point out where did you ordered the parts from and what part of the knee pads needs to be cut off.

95wildtt 10-24-2013 12:13 AM

Hi,

I believe there were a couple of tabs that need to be cut off of one of the pieces, but it's be a while and I don't really remember.

You will need to order parts #10 and #11 (in the color of your interior) shown below:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/d/a/335.png
You can find the above diagram and the part numbers for the items at the link for Realoem.com posted earier in the thread.

Thanks,
John

Finally had some time yesterday and did this mod. What I did differently is to leave the front tab on both left and right knee pads as is and just cut the rear tabs to have a secure hold. Took me about 45 minutes from start to finish.

beco 12-17-2013 04:24 PM

Terdie,

Do you have some pictures to share?

Terdie 12-17-2013 09:36 PM

Beco,

Didn't take any since the pictures posted earlier justifies how the mod looks like thereafter. If there's anything in particular that you want to know about the install that was not posted early on, feel free to PM me.

Beco,

Here's some quick shots of my Knee Pads Installed. As what I said earlier, I didn't cut the front tabs on both right and left pads to ensure a firm hold. The rear tabs needed to go since the shift knob trim cover ( part #7) will not lock into position if left uncut.

beco 12-26-2013 03:57 PM

Thanks, Tirdie.
Clean job, mate!
