OP is right the fact we only have 1 hook is stupid, i bought 2 aftermarket ones. As a vehicle recovery and transport tech. I can tell you from experience you dont want to winch from one side you run the risk of breaking the vehicle and most likely will make a bad situation worse

Maybe it depends on how often one goes into the ditch,

IMO it only matters if you are using two winches, and don't have an alternate attachment point on the undercarriage. Given how easily the factory hooks bend with anything other than a straight pull, I often didn't use them anyway.

Is a "vehicle recovery and transport tech" a tow truck operator?

PS. It's a side issue, but if you are going to celebrate heroes in a large bold font in your signature, could you spell it correctly?
