Tailgate Roundel Removal

I want to re-finish my large rear tailgate roundel chrome hosing. Does anyone know the procedure for removal?

Thx.

A big screwdriver is probably the wrong answer.

I took mine off with a lot of dental floss and a towel covered screw driver to pry it gently. It isn't as simple as the hood roundel with the 2 pins.

On the trunk one there are the 2 pins and adhesive (3M type tape) all the way around. That's what you will need the dental floss for. You need to go slow. You will end up breaking a ton of floss, but if you are patient it will come off.

Good luck.

I believe he is asking about the chrome housing! The roundel is easy to take off using a hair dryer or heat gun if you have one. As for the chrome housing, check with poleposition...I believe he got his painted blk.

Correct, I am looking to remove the housing. I think poleposition had his done still on the car.

I had mine modified as well...

I am talking about the chrome housing. The roundel and chrome housing on the trunk are one big giant piece. You cannot separate them.

I decided to order a new one from the dealer so I didn't have to drive around without one on the trunk while I sent it out to be modified. I just pulled the old one out of the box since I saved it to make sure I was correct.

So the instructions I gave you are correct.

Providenceleaf, did you finish the mod already? Please upload a photo for us to see. Haven't seen an updated photo of your awesome X5 since you put on the 128s.
