Should my father...
My father and I are going back and forth on this subject. The question is, should he buy out the lease on is 2007 Cadillac Escalade (50k miles and loaded), or lease a 2009 X5 4.8 with M sport package, basically loaded.
The lease deal is for 15k miles/year, about $4900 total out of pocket, and 882/month... what do you all think? |
it depends if he needs the space from the escalade, or the luxury. if neither is needed, i would without a doubt go with the X...

Does he want to drive a boat with 4 wheels and rows of couches that leans all the way over on turns or does he want an SAV with the feel of a tight sporty car? How does he drive? Whats important to him? Rather wierd question to ask. What do you think people on an X5 forum are going to say?

I'm guessing by the fact that when you say "father" you are in high school or college ? And how do you know all of the financial details of it ? When I was in high school I was just told to go do some yard work if I asked those types of questions :dunno:. All kidding aside, it really depends on a lot of factors--what he wants to spend, how is he going to use it/his needs, what other cars you have, etc.

Depends a lot on how good of a deal he can get on the buyout, and whether he is happy with the Escalade.

I know what people in an X5 forum would say, I know what I'm trying to convince him of. I love my X but he thinks it is a bit young (probably because I have one, and it has wide wheels and tinted windows).
I personally thought he got molested when he leased his Escalade, and although he loves the comfort and "luxury" of the Escalade, I think he would be better suited in the (much more sporty but still luxury) E70. Plus he is 55 and this would be his first "non-american" car, and it is very difficult for him to come to the realization that there really aren't many (reasonably priced) high end options from the American manufacturer's. As you can see, there are lots holding him back... and I guess the REAL reason I came here with this question is because I wanted the people here to take a look at the numbers and let us know their thoughts. (Plus I wanted to introduce him to the cool following these cars have). BTW, I'm not in high school or college, I'm 26 and very close with my father, so I'm helping him out. Thanks! |

He loved the Escalade so much that he was about to lease a brand new Escalade at a ridiculous deal, I convinced him to hold off so we can figure this all out. Another drawback he see's with the E70, there are many in our area (base model 3.0's) and he doesn't want to have something that everyone drives. Coming from American manufacturer's, he's having trouble realizing that he'll be actually driving a car that very few people have, a 4.8 with M-Sport package. |

But you haven't said anything about the cost of the Escalade buyoout. > he thinks it is a bit young (probably because I have one, and it has wide wheels and tinted windows). Make sure you are not trying to get him to buy a car you want/like, rather than what he wants. Since you have an X5, I would think it would be really straightforward to let him drive it and decide for himself if he likes the vehicle, vs. Cadillac lternatives. But if he actually likes Cadillacs better than BMWs, let him buy a Cadillac. |
Does anyone here own or have pictures of an E70 with M Sport package?
