I need your advise on performance mods for '07 X5 4.8

Hello guys!
First let me introduce myself...
My name is Mario, I'm from northern NJ and I'm here to learn as much as I can about the X5 and other bimmers.
I own a Jeep SRT but I'm definitely not here for that, I'm trying to help a friend of mine that owns an X5 4.8, I just finished doing some work on his X5, like detailing it, swapping fender flares to the sport model ones for better appearance with his 21" tires and other things.
But my question to you guys is about performance mods for this power plant.
What's available to wake up this motor a bit more?
What are my tuning options? Is there a hand held programmer or chip I can use?
What are the most common bolt-ons for this motor, like CAI, exhaust etc?

Thanks in advance and glad to be here, it seems like a nice community and the pics I've seen of your rides look great.

Talking about pics, here are a few of my friend's X5...

Sorry for OT but what was difficulty for putting on the wider flares? Do you know what it would take to put on running boards?

The reason I ask is that I avery specifc about what I want on the vehicle I want to purchase (used) and very few have exactly what I want. This would widen tmy scope and allow me to mod to what I want. Thanks.

For performance mods, the easiest would be DME tuning, CAI, headers and exhaust. I'm just talking from experience with my M.

hi and welcome here :)
exhaust:Hamann,Hartege,AC schnitzer and gt hause(meisterschaft),eisenmann.
ecu: you got new computer programming from all three germans compnaies , I have no info about US co tuning the X.
lowering kit: all the three germans as well,H&R SPRINGS.
Bodykits: OEM: M-bodykit and the aerokit, the 3 companies above as well got their kits and all of them not thet good, Lumma design, RD sport will release a new kit soon.
roof rails: change them if you want more sporty look. you got the M style.(black or silver) black would look nice on this X. or simply Uninstall them.
BLACK grill, taillights would look nice too, and change those orange things on the front bumper to the euro clear ones.
thats a quick thing , if I remember anything else I'll share it with u :)

Noodle, the only difficult part was to rivet the new plastic rivets on that comes with the new wider flares with my rivet machine, I had to modify it a little to open up the hole for the stem of the plastic rivet to fit in. The removal of the original flares was very easy, once you get the rivets off they pop right out. Reverse the process to get the new ones in and rivet them.
Ohh... the last rivet to in stall on the rear fenders have little clearance for the rivet gun, you might have to lift the car either on a lift or floor jack to have more clearance between the tire and the last rivet location.

I don't remember what it would take to add or remove the running boards but as I can I'll check and get back to you. From the undercarriage pics I took is not very clear, so I'll take more pics on that. I don't believe is that difficult thou.

Thanks for the performance info.

Here's a few pictures on the wider flares install, first pic shows the flat stock flare and the second the wider flare install. The front are not much wider than the stock ones. But enough to notice. Third pic shows the flare off.

Awesome! Thanks man!
I'll start doing my homework on that, as soon as I put any of these mods on the X5 I'll post back in here.
I told him about the H&R lowering kit already, that would really set the X5 with a nice stance.
I'll let him know about your other recommended mods, those would look great too.

And thanks for the welcome

I am not sure why everyone is so interested in all of the typical mods. This one here is so unique that it will blow your friends and neighbors minds. This is a must have item to complete any look. I am not sure but, perhaps this tops FunfDreisig's mods. :stickpoke
