Hey guys, quite new to this forum because I recently just got this X. I washed it the other day myself and felt like snapping a few pics. Enjoy :)

How can you not love a clean black X. She's a beauty!

askhao 09-20-2009 08:34 AM

nice X! and your pics are phenomenal!

BGM 09-20-2009 09:00 AM

Yeah those pics could be in the e70 catalog. You must have a really good camera and some experience with photography, backdrops, etc. Mine always look like I shot it with an instant camera .

Is that Jet Black ? Sure seems like it.

motordavid 09-20-2009 09:29 AM

Wow! Beautiful ride and everyone has already commented on the quality of your pics. You must certainly have some photography experience as I see your logo on the pics! Have to ask what kind of camera/lens you are using??

Once again, speckless ride...welcome to the club!

XXX555 09-20-2009 01:08 PM

Beautiful. When its clean/polished, Black is the best color!

Now take a Celebrex for your spine and rotator cuffs...

spacegraye70 09-20-2009 02:03 PM

The X5 car I have but not this camera and not this lens!

FreddyG 09-20-2009 03:27 PM

WOW! That's a Beautiful X5! You did a Great job on the pictures and also on the wax job! :beerchug: Do you mind me asking what wax and prep that you did to get that depth of shine?

Does it sparkle like that in real or was it a bit of Photoshop magic? I'm not trying to downplay your hard work, but whatever you did/used on your whip, is what I want to use on mine because it looks Spectacular!

I really like the picture with the water where it shows the reflection of your "Black Beauty"!

Hartawan 09-20-2009 04:15 PM

Wow thanks everyone for the lovely comments!
As for the wash, it was just a simple wash with Meguairs Gold Class soap and dry with Absorber. I usually take it to a car wash place for wax every 3 weeks but I am going to buy my own buffer soon as I am starting to see fine scratches.
As for the pictures, I am not quite professional yet but for those pictures I only used Nikon D300 + Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 lens. There are a bit of photoshop magic involved in these pictures =)

'ONLY' a Nikon D300... The new Nikon D300S with lens is over $2,600!!

I have a very similar Nikon D90 and my pics aren't anything even close to yours! I saw your flickr account and you certainly have a lot of car photography pic's on there. What's with all the Lexus pic's?? :stickpoke

I knew from the reflection in the water that some photoshop touch-up had been done. :D Wish I had your talent. Looking at your car makes me want to go and power polish mine right now...

Hartawan 09-20-2009 05:35 PM

Haha sorry I thought you guys were expecting a D700 or like a D3, now those are pricey! :yikes:
If you can learn some photoshop magic, any camera will do great. There is this one photographer that only shoots a D80 and produces stunning images, I could not believe he shoots a D80.
I came from a Lexus IS350 and I was on that forum for quite a while and I did photoshoots for some of them, I was building my portfolio so why not.
I did not really touch the picture that much, for the garage picture I just poured some water on the ground and I could see the reflection of the wheels :D

AUU 555 09-20-2009 05:42 PM

You don't want to use a buffer to put on wax--much better by hand and less chance of swirling or screwing something up. I'm guessing yours is Jet Black from the paint clarity--which is what I have on my e53. For wash I used Einszett Perls and for waxing, etc, I use P21s Paint Cleanser (called GEPC) and top it with P21s Carnauba is what I've used for 8 years on mine--it goes on and off like butter. Most people think my paint is only like 3 years old. The only time I've had a buffer on it was a couple years ago to do some routine oxidation removal on the clear coat.

Nice car! I have never seen a silver X5 yet. I currently still have my silver Lexus and usually I wash it every week but now that I've been having this car, I tend to not care about the lexus *shhhh. It hasn't been washed for about a month now and it's still clean!

Wow thanks for the advice! I will try that set up one day. And yes it is the Jet Black paint.

Yeah but you are in Canada---there is no such thing as a "permanent" clean look with the weather there. Black works great in climates where there's no real winter (from CA all the way to FL)--yeah it might get dusty but never salt on it and slush on it ;).

nynd 09-21-2009 05:35 PM

So true... can't argue there. I do try and avoid bringing it out in the crappy weather if I can. The salt has been replaced with sand in most areas so not as toxic. And when she goes back in the garage, I try to pressure wash the crap off before letting it sit. I try and baby this X as much as possible.. call me a car guy!

Stevev 09-21-2009 06:51 PM

Very nice photography there...what more can you ask for a beautiful and clean black X5
