Project -Asking for instruction and advice for running cable from glovebox to trunk..
I am trying to install a aftermarket rear view camera and planning to run the cable from glove box area all the way to the trunk where the original rear camera located.
My intial plan is placing the aftermakret interface behind the glovebox then under carpet through passenger side door sills all the way to the back panel of trunk area then via factory black duct tape to the plastic back trunk. Would that be the safe and easiest route? Anyone has the instruction of how to remove the glove box area and plastic cover of the back trunk or any suggestion about this project would be very appreaciated. PS. So many thanks to King's (Killer look of his Black 4.8issssss  w/215 style) instrucion and advice of how to remove the Nav so I get this part ready. Thanks. Mugen |
I did something similar when I installed a Sirius receiver/antenna in my '05 X3. It worked fine. Sorry I don't have any tips for the X5, but good luck.

Anyone? I think running the cable via door sills all the way to the trunk probably is the easiest route (My best guess) if I can somehow manage to pop out all the door sills plastic. But for the rear trunk door plastic panel and turnk side panel where the 12v outlet....Anyone would have instruction and experience before.
Thanks. |
You might want to go and ask a high end audio installer how they do it or post up on a car audio forum. Those Guys are pretty amazing when it comes to finding ways to do stuff.
Good Luck! :beerchug: |
I also suggest door sills; that's what I used to run the wire for my rear foglights from back to front. I'm not familiar with the X5 but the sills are probably just held together by a few plastic pins. Do not force the panels out too hard or else you'll break it since it's only plastic.
