well it finally happened on my steering wheel... the top layer is peeling near the left buttons. This in addition to the light switch corner like previously shown. If they claim this is normal wear & tear I'm not gonna be a happy camper. I don't even have 9k miles on this baby. Did you guys successfully get these items replaced under regular warranty?
|
We always repalce them at my dealer under warranty, the repair order line just says "steering wheel finish peeling". Never had a problem with a warranty claim yet.

I agree with you guys, my '08 e70 is my fourth BMW, and the quality is going really bad... :(
Soft feeling paint is peeling, brushed aluminium parts are incredibely easy to scratch, the leather of the seat is not much better than a renault's one, plastics parts break itself easily (ashtrays, some buttons)... it sucks... My dealer take everything under waranty spontaneously, but I'm afraid about the mecanical parts. I won't keep this car for a long time. My e53 was really better if you consider the general construction. :( |
Hi there,
here are the problems I had on my brand new car when I receieved: 1) dark spots on the paint, repaired under warranty 2) tailgate didnt close on one side - adjusted tailgate striker post 3) "X5" logo pealed off after three weeks - repared under warranty 4) Dashboard, A, B pillar squeak on uneven driveways - unable to repair due to the excess body flex 5) d-pillar plastic trim clips popped / broke due to excess body flex while drive over uneven driveways (sounds crazy, but true) 6) the rear end of the vehicle still squeaks on uneven surfaces - dealer put double-sided tape to reduce the squeaks, but couldnt stop it fully 7) car squeeks for a short while if not driven for a week or more Never had these problems on all my Japanese built vehicles. No one should have to experience these strange problems especially when you pay such a large amount of money for a car. |
I must admit that the the engine and transmission & the steering is simply awesome / stunning refinement. Its all been put to gether by amatures.

Just got back from dealers.
The leather coming apart from the seat was fixed. But they denied the warranty claim on the light switch peel. They are claiming that it was caused by "outside influence"! I don't touch that part as I get in and out of the car. I don't even use it on a regular basis because it's always on the "automatic" setting. Really ticks me off. Furthermore, when I called to find out the status of my car. The advisor said everything was complete. It wasn't when I picked up the car that I found out it wasn't fixed. Since the advisor was out to lunch, I thought I'd just let it slide and get it done next time. When I got home and looked over the sheet more carefully (should have done it at the time I picked up the car), I very surprised and upset to find that it was denied warranty service! |
