Dunlop RFs to Bridgestone Dueler Non RFs- comments, feedback, suggestions?
We have an 09' X5 4.8 sport with the 20s. At 10k mi. the tread looks about 50% worn. I am inclined to replace the tires in the next 3-4k mi. to preserve them for lease turn in. Has anyone tried the Bridgestone NON run flats? They are the same tread pattern as the OEM run flat Bridges (which come exclusively on the M X5 & X6 Hmmm??)
They are 1/2 the money of the dunlops. And although the Dunlops give an acceptable ride quality (unlike our previous 335xi with the bridge runflats which dislodged a few fillings) my biggest issue with the dunlops - aside from cost - is noise. Any 315 tire is going to be noisy, but I'm assuming that the bridgestone non runflat should ride just a bit better, and be just a tad bit quieter for 1/2 the money. Has anyone tried the non runflat bridgestones? I've heard the RF version is louder and harsher riding than the Dunlop RFs I have now. Thanks for any feedback. DRP |
After 18k miles I just installed Dueler RFTs on my '08 4.8 Sport and don't find them any differnent than the Dunlops.. just a lot less expensive. I remember an article in one of the car magazines about 2 months ago that Bridgestone had redesigned their RFTs so they would be much quieter and softer riding. They weren't available yet when I got mine in July.

Bridgestone Dueler Non RFs vs Bridgestone Dueler RFTs
I am trying to make the exact same decision. You save about $335 if you get the non-runflats, and I assume they would last longer/make less noise. So my question is, what exactly would I need incase of a flat, and how much would it cost for those supplies? |

I read the linked posts, thank you. But I still haven't heard from anyone who has used the non run flat Bridgestones on an E70 with 20 inch wheels. They are about $220 a tire on tirerack. I don't see any benefit these days to a runflat. I have never had a blowout as a driver, and was only once riding in a car that had one (an old american car). As for not getting stranded, two words...roadside assistance. You may wait a while but you won't get your hands (or your clothes - personal experience) dirty changing a tire. Thing is, I got the X5 for my wife. We have our first baby and frankly, the 4.8 sport with the 20s in not a great SUV to putt around town in. It doesn't do well at 0-30 in town. Woody, hollow throttle mapping, valvetrain noise and tire noise and harshness are the prevailing features of a low speed cruise in our X5. But if you turn up the wick and drive it like I do my 550, its the best SUV out there. Trouble is, we don't drive that way with the baby in the car which is 99.9% of the time. "Well, why didn't you get the non sport?" My wife absolutely insisted on the 20s. I can't wait to try it with the snows in a month or so. I bought the 18 inch OEM 4.8 rims and with 255/55 NON RUN FLAT snows, the ride will be as good as its ever going to get. Sorry for the diversion. I still want to know if anyone has tried the bridgestone non-run flats on an E70 with the 20 inchers? Thanks guys, DRP |
