Fixed the rattling noise from the tailgate!!

I've finally fixed that annoying rattling noise from the rear of my E70!! The noise occurred whenever I go over a bump slowly or when I drive normally on uneven rough roads.

What I did was to raise the wedge stop on the rear body of the car.

1. Open your upper rear lid
2. You'll see two black things on the left and the right, that's the wedge stop. This wedge stop meets the wedge on the upper lid covering the rear lid gas spring.
3. You can raise the wedge stop by turning the screw in the middle of the wedge counterclockwise. The screw is covered by a rubber buffer. Just pry it out. Don't get the wrong screw. It's the one in the middle of the wedge stop.

I raised it enough to make sure the rear lid doesn't move when the car goes on a bump or uneven road.

Attached is the photo of the wedge stop.

Nice find/fix. Thanks for sharing!

While this is a correct fix to address the rattling issue, those who have automatic tailgate beware - there will be times when the gate might not close and will re-coil, requiring to push it down by hand in the last 0.5" of the movement. That is especially true if the car is on incline - front facing up.

I think the key is to raise it up just enough to make the tailgate firm in its place. I've had mine at around 2mm higher than the wedge base.

I've also put some felt tape around the striker.

I've tried a lot of things for the rattling tailgate. Has anyone noticed how "flimsy and rattlely" the top piece of plastic is above the glass on the inside of the tailgate? I think rattles may be coming from there. It's not easy to remove otherwise I would have done that.

Worked for me.
You will need a Torx tool to adjust.

I don;t mean to highjack this thread but has anyone had dash creaks on a E70? Seems mine likes to rattle/creak/ting as its getting colder here? Any fixes?
