Wheel lugs and spacers re-torquing?
 

I have recently installed new wheels with H&R wheel spacers. My installer told me that I would need to re-torque the spacers and the wheel, after 50 miles and then again after 100 miles of driving. After this, because of spacers, vehicle 'may' require frequent checks of wheel torque.

I know that H&R recommends re-torquing after 50-60 miles of initial use (this is mentioned as part of the instructions in the box). But I guess my question is whether I really need to re-torque tham again after 100 miles and then regularly check the wheel torque as suggested by my installer? I spoke to the wheel manuafcturer and they suggested me to use a impact wrench to tighten the spacer so that it doesn't require re-torquing and use a torque wrench to bolt the wheel and re-torque them only once after initial 50 miles.

I know lot of people have spacers installed on their X. What do you guys say? How often do you guys have to re-torque them?

Can anyone send me the instructions that accompany H&R spacers in the box? I misplaced mine somewhere and can't find them on the H&R website :(

I don't think it is a good idea to over torque anything. Over torquing can cause cracking and stress points and may strip the threads. If your worried about loosening bolts you could probably use a little dab of thread loc then torque to specification.

Wheel bolts should be checked and retorqued as per normal maintenance... In my case I have the bolt on spacers .. so to retorque these I need to take the wheel off... I think the advice is over cautious to prevent some of the common issues that are associated with spacers (either justified or not) of wheels coming off !!!

Mine are bolt on spacers too. How frequently do you retorque them?

I put them on about a month ago... haven't retorqued them and have travelled around 400 km... I'm actually planning to change my wheels so will more than probably be removing them shortly.. if not I'll check them in the next month or so... I put them on and torqued them with a torque wrench so I'm confident that they are nice and tight in the first place.... if someone else did it I would have checked them earlier...:p:

I too read about the re-torque from their instructions (which I've since tossed). I'd like to know the torque spec BMW recommends... I've heard it is 80-100 ft lbs from a few people as well as other models' forums (for 3 series) ? I've driven a few hundred miles without re-torquing so far... been putting it off.

I have been told 98 ft lbs is recommended.
