Wheels on X5 M today (not mine...)

3 Attachment(s)
Just installed a set of forged 22" MHT Illusions in black and brushed with a chrome lip on a brand new X5 M for one of our customers. 22x9.5" front and 22x11" rear. This thing was pretty tough to outfit as the calipers and rotors are HUGE. We measured 15.5" front!!! Rear tire is a 335, front is a 285. Fit is perfect.

Just a quick heads up: X5M has staggered hubs just like the X6. 74mm front and 72.6mm rear. That caught us by surprise...

Comments welcome. Keep in mind this is what the customer wanted, not what we were trying to get rid of from stock...

I'm not feeling it. I think the ///M needs a meatier wheel. Those spokes are too thin.

Just my $0.02

I'm not sure about the wheels myself, but give them this much, they sure show off those brakes!

It is sad to see that a M car has such ugly OEM wheels. However, these MHT wheels still do not work for me either. They are too busy. Style 128s would look much better IMO.

King 10-19-2009 12:43 PM

OMG! Why would anyone do that to such a beautiful car?? Chrome (even if it's blk chrome) just does not belong on BMW's in my opinion. Chrome belongs strictly on those American boxes on wheels like the Denali, Esclade, etc.

If the owner really wanted those wheels, I think it would look better with black spokes and a fat chrome lip. That two tone thing is just not working with those wheels.

Just noticed he's got Brembos! They're about $4K just for the front and about $2K or so for the rear so obviously this guy has money to throw. The stock brakes on the ///M are amazing so why pull them off??

Edge647 10-19-2009 12:52 PM

I agree - needs some more "weight" to that wheel. Looks too empty :(

Hartawan 10-19-2009 01:46 PM

:( Not a fan of those black/chrome wheels + a convex (is a no no). And no offense, but those wheels look cheap.

None taken. It's not my car so I could care less. Just thought you guys would like to see something on an X that isn't a factory wheel.

I would prefer the stock wheels (or X6M wheels) or style 215's over these.
Any why would he put Brembo brakes on it? Maybe its just the red cover.

Does not look good on that beautiful ultimate driving machine...

alexmish 10-19-2009 05:31 PM

Too light, agree with other posters, need more weight to them...

Rez 10-19-2009 05:35 PM

now that is a way to ruin a nice car

Meiac09 10-19-2009 05:49 PM

chrome is fugly

lion 10-19-2009 06:20 PM

Wow that really different. It does not work for me, just does not look right.
You have to stay euro or oem on these X way too much going on, at least the brakes look good. My $o.10

Dking05 10-19-2009 06:35 PM

This is now up to $0.08. The wheels look lost on that car considering they're 22's. And its the only chrome on the car. Wrong !!

Several posters have commented on the lack of chrome on the car. I can see bezels around the kidney grills, all the chrome inside the headlight covers, the M logo in each front fender, the roundels front and rear, the rear badge, and four exhaust tips.

I'm with the others...not feeling it. Stock wheels look better imo. I just don't think chrome and performance go together. To each his reach i guess :dunno:
