Hi Guys/Gals,

I'd like some feedback for reassurance. I placed my order (and it was place with BMW) on 8/31/09 for an X5d. I have a production number and was told it was in production pack on 10/2 but no update or PRODUCTION DATE yet.

Seven weeks as of today the vehicle was ordered but still no production date. Unusual?

This is not unusual at all. Don't trust the BMWUSA website or automated phone tracking systems. They are never up to date. Call your selling dealer, who can get real time info on the status of your new vehicle. I have a new X6 on order, the website and telephone hot line tells me that it is waiting to be scheduled, and my dealer told me that production has already started, and vehicle should be finished by end of this week.

At this point I think it's also more accurate if you speak to a BMWNA rep. Call the 800 number and press 0, give the person your order number and they will tell you where you stand.

Spoke with them/bmwna just before I posted my query here. They had no update to provide and suggested I speak with my CA at the dealer. He emailed me back that 7 weeks would be unusual normally but not with the X5d and simply said sorry for the delay...

Your CA can get detailed information on the status of you order via the BMW network that dealers can access.

FWIW during the wait for my 2009 35d (build date 8/4/09) my CA emailed me screen dumps from this system every time I asked for them. I didn't want to wear out my welcome, so I didn't do this too often. But I did it at critical stages to confirm the info I was getting from the 1-800 #. His info was usually less than 24 hours better than the 1-800 #.

From what I'm reading BMW simply does not want to disclose the issue(s) that are delaying delivery of the 2010 X5. Not just the 35d.

It would be nice to know for sure wtf is going on.

I was told by two separate BMW dealers that 2010 X5 diesels for US market were in short supply due to international demand. I also know that the X5 is due for the 2011 update early, in about six months from now. Perhaps that has something to do with the problem? However, my X6, which I ordered only three weeks ago is currently being built. Since both X6 and X5 are built on the same production line, it is unlikely that there is an overall production problem. However, I also know that BMW had laid off some contract workers due to the global economy, and are now beginning to hire some of them back. Maybe there is more demand than they can currently handle.

the EU diesel is different, yet I beleive the US demand (ECO CREDIT?) caught them by surprise. It appears they are building now.so perhaps the shipment of engines finally arrived.

I just checked the CARB website. The data is as good as 10-12. The only X that has CA certification is the X5 M.

It's up to $5,000 per car fine for OEM/Dealers to ship no certifed cars to those states that follow CARB. I'm sure the paperwork is in place, yet I understand they don't want to take the risk.

All reports of the 2011 due date is simply idle rumor at this point. We're still not sure if the standard X5's are getting the X M bumper !

You are probably right on all counts. And the Eco Credit was probably more successful than they had planned for. Also, X6 worldwide demand is substantially up, even though it is not that popular in the US (yet).

On that point, we are sure.

The standard 2010 X5's are not getting the X M Bumper. We are sure, since BMW has sent the dealers a letter outlining the model changes from 2009 to 2010 and did not mention any styling changes. If there were an changes, BMW would have mentioned it in the dealer memo.

Hmmm. Tough one. How come in the post that has the ultimate guide on everything you want to know about BMW.... there isn't even a chapter on the X series?

So far, there's only one poster on Xoutpost or Bimmerfest that has taken delivery of a 2010.........and poor diesaroo's X5d didn't make it 80 miles before BMW Assist took it from him........no word on any changes yet.

2010 MBZ ML350 & GL350 diesels ARE certified.

spoke to my sales associate today about my x5d. still waiting for EPA/CARB but the car is built and sitting in SC. they won't give me a PDC date earlier than November 9 until they hear that the certification is resolved. Lot of people being held up by this.

I must be dense... what's the connection between a recent memo from BMW NA to their dealers and "the post that has the ultimate guide on everything you want to know about BMW?"

Too bad my dealer CA and BMW are not upfront and honest about any delays.

I realize the eco credit may have increased demand but its not an excuse for the delay that my CA is implying. A company of BMW's size and experience should know/plan better.

All of this EPA/CARB stuff should not need to be researched by customers from the internet and pieced together from what one CA says here and there. (All information from folks here and other boards much apreciated but shame on BMW to get it one crumb at a time.)

Come on BMW, your customers deserve better!

The folks who have their X5d ready to drive but being held up are rightfully upset and I feel for you.

All BMW employees, including PR, have been taught to have only one response to inquiries from customers, unless a BMW executive has specifically authorized disclosure:

Nov 9 was the date they offered my last week. I postponed until the 13th with no problem.

AFAIK no one had taken delivery of a 2010 yet. Could you post a link to the info on diesaroo's taking delivery of a 2010. I'm curious.

Well the performance center delivery experience was all that I wanted it to be and more. Points all around to the PCD staff for a great day. Unfortunately, during the drive back to Columbia SC, the car shut itself down on the interstate and would not restart. Engine malfunction--reduced power as IDRIVE put it. So we were on the SOS with BMW roadside assistance for 30 minutes, waited for a tow for 1.5 hrs and finally got it towed to the dealer late last night.

It was a good thing Donnie showed me how to disengage the transmission manually into neutral and use the tow insert. So with only 71 miles on the odometer my car is in the shop. I'm hoping it's something simple like a sensor or something. Will have to wait and see as they are diagnosing it today.

Maybe we all need to quit worrying about whether our "new" vehicle has 7, 14, or 25 miles on it when we pick it it, and instead insist that they have 1,000 on the odometer before we'll accept it! :rofl:

That doesn't sound good at all. Hoping that is just a lemon, and that other '10 models won't have issues. We're taking delivery Saturday, our SA called today asking us about registration already!

Funny you said that as with 20K on my 335i today I was thinking how it was just broken it with notable improved mileage, idle and performance.

No problem. I was pretty sure it was a 2009. But not that sure :)

FWIW from what I've read, there is no reason to believe that 2010 X5s (gas and diesel) are not being built every single day. AFAIK they are being built, they're just not being delivered to customers yet :(

Yup, a fair number of posts from people, such as me, having seen the status of their order go in stages through production to being at the VPC and holding.

Frankly, for various reasons, I would just as soon not take delivery until November, and I'd just as soon have it waiting at the VPC as at my dealer. So in my case, I've got no problem if they hang onto it for another couple of weeks.

I hope the added shifts are on Friday.. I have PDC scheduled for 11/20 which is a Friday and currently the production line is not running on FRIDAY!.. so no plant tour..

Hopefully most of the delays are not really hitting folks in their pocket book.

BTW I am even more glad we had our 2009 X5d built and delivered in August. Our previous X5 had been totaled. So we were renting a RAV4 at a little over $1k /mo. Waiting for the 2010's to begin building, then waiting for ours to be delivered, would have already cost me over $2K. And as good as the new iDrive may be, I wouldn't pay $2k extra for it :)
