Tryst with nature, some mods and pics!

Hey guys, I finished all the cosmetic mods last week and my baby is finally dressed up and ready to roll :whew:. My intention was not to make it extremely agressive/sporty, but instead enhance its elegance and character. So I chose to retain the mix of chrome/silver and black (the stock BMW look) rather than doing all black.

This is what I did:
1. 22" custom forged 3 piece wheels
2. Aluminum running boards
3. Aerodynamic kit
4. Wheel arch extensions
5. Quad exhaust tips
6. Painted all plastic trim
7. Wheel spacers

Here are some latest pictures that I shot in Vermont while savouring the fall colors... ;)

Thanks! I didn't have the necessary equipment to do this, so got it done at an exhaust shop. You can choose any shape that you like: Magnaflow exhaust tips

Part# 35168. To install these, your exhaust shop would replace the pipe that connects your stock tips to the muffler. The new replacement pipe will be bent accordingly and welded to the stock muffler and new tips.

Nice job on the customizations. What size spacers? How do the 22s ride?

My spacers are H&R 12mm front and 30mm rear. The 22s ride well, they are very light weight, so the car feels extremely light. The acceleration and cornering has improved and most importantly the overall 'feel' of the car being lighter is extremely delightful. The only qualm is that these being low profile tires, I now feel the road more.

Gorgeous!!

Very nice looking. Maybe lower it an inch.

One of the best looking X5s I've seen. Congrats!

Thanks and welcome to xoutpost!
I am considering lowering it, but haven't made up my mind yet. Will probably do it next summer.

Nice mods and great pictures there . What kind of camera and settings did you use? I like those quad exhausts that you have on. How is the exhaust note compare to stock?

XXL-X5 11-01-2009 11:46 AM

very nice!

Very nice. I too am new to the forum and have a 3.0si. Thinking about replacing my rims and tires as well. What size are the 22's? Where did you get them? Is there a reason why you didnt go with the staggered fitment?

Its a Nikon D80. Used it at manual mode with a polarizer, 1/640, F5.6, ISO100. I did not change the exhaust, I only installed the quad exhaust tips. The sound is same as stock.

The wheels are 22x10 and tires are 295/30/22. I didn't want staggered because I wanted to keep it as close to stock (255/55/18) as possible, in terms of overall diameter, radius, circumference, revs per mile, etc. BTW, if you notice, its got a staggered appearance. The rear wheel has a 2" bigger lip then the fronts and it also sticks out more than the front wheels due to bigger spacers. AM FORGED WHEELS

azwcat 01-16-2010 03:17 PM

I don't know how I missed this before, but your X5 looks fantastic. Very clean look.

What was the offset on your wheels? Wondering why you put spacers on, since you can order any offset you want on custom wheels.

I had mine done about two weeks ago, and they just did a spot weld. They do stick out a little bit, but look good. Did they have to make a new pipe or did they spot weld yours as well?

Thanks! The offset is 40mm. I made a mistake of not telling the wheel company that I had extended wheel arches, so they made these wheels with an offset that best suited a X5 without the wheel arches. Once I installed the wheels, I realized the wheel arch was sticking out a lot, thus the spacers. :)

They made a new pipe to weld the tips to the muffler.

Looks like some of them were taken on the Mount Washington Auto Road... and a few just below it. Nice part of the country...

olavskar 01-22-2010 04:06 PM

Realy like the mods you have done her! I am about to do some of the same to my X5 actually. I am going to paint all the black plastic, fit 22", and I will lower mine 1"..

If you are plan to put 22". your ride will be harsher as compared to stock rims due to low profile tires (assuming you choose a tire that has overall diameter same as stock). Lowering the car will make the ride even more harsh, like a wheel barrow, trust me...you do not want that. If you are want to lower just for aesthetic purposes, my suggestion would be to up-size your tires to decrease the gap between the tires and fender.

olavskar 01-23-2010 05:41 AM

Thanks for the tip!
I think I will put 285/30R22 and 335/25R22 on it, Continental tires.
Maybe I have to test it with the 22" before I lower it then.

mb23 01-23-2010 06:19 AM

Amazing job. Truck looks perfect. I think a little h&r drop and she will be looking amazing. I love the rim choice and I'm sure your happy you can rotate your tires unlike the staggered rims. Enjoy...

btw love the pictures the nikon is a great machine and very easy to use.

I realy like those wheels to!!

I am buying 22"s on my E70, but can`t decide what to buy..

I have a set of 22" Beyern Multi on the hand, used but cheap. But I don`t realy like the 25 spokes..

The wheels I reeeeealy want is the Beyern Wolff, 3-split. But they cost amazingly $9500 for 4 rims, without tires! Go Norway!! :dunno:

The last rim I have been looking at, is the Beyern Rapp, in black or silver..

So what do you think?..

mb23 01-23-2010 09:46 AM

The Beyern Wolf look very nice!!!!!

rlabair 01-23-2010 10:14 AM

Very nice, thanks for the inspiration.

$9500?? WOW! I don't think they would cost more than $1000 each in US. I am sure you can find a similar design in other forged multi-piece wheel brands for cheaper price. Here is my design:

Shashank, those AM Forged Primes are amazing look great on the car. If you don't mind me asking how much did they run with rubbers?

The Primes are $925 ea. and the Pirelli 295/30/22 tires are $180 ea, free mounting+balancing+shipping. TPMS are $200 extra if you buy a set of 4 new ones (I used my stock TPMS).
PM me if you need contact info of the dealer.

olavskar 01-23-2010 11:39 AM

The Beyern Wolff and you`re AM wheels look actually very similar. Very nice wheels on your X5!!
