Picked up Our 35d on Monday 11/2

Just wanted to drop a quick note, we picked up our 35d on Monday at the Performance Center. The best part was giving BMW NA's 35ds a workout around the track. We had a 700 mile trek home and I have to say the X5 did not disappoint.

In fact even though this is replacing our 4.8iS the 35d is a FANTASTIC motor. And the car proved to be a phenomenal highway cruiser especially with the active ventilated seats in use the whole time. A nice surprise that I had overlooked when ordering is that the Active Seats brought memory for the passenger side which is GREAT.

The new iDrive was WELL worth the wait AND the extra few thousand dollars in increased price (ours has Adaptive Drive and Sport Activity) over the 2009.

I've attached some photos. Best of luck to all the rest who are taking or awaiting delivery!!

Congrats! How was the track and the skid pad? I can't wait....:excited:

That's a lot of options bringing it up to a hefty sticker price there. Nice leather dash. Congrats on the new ride. Are you going to do anything with the wheels?

It was great!! We did the ABS/Emergency breaking course and slaloms with the X5 35ds. The wet skid pad we used 335i's.

It's no fun without all the toys!! The leather dash looks amazing I can't believe that was something we were debating. N

No plans to change the wheels. After two winters dealing with the 20's/winters on my 4.8iS we decided we don't need the hassles of winter wheels and tires - at least not on the X5, that's what we have the M3 for. Actually after picking it up and seeing it in person I'm much happier with the 19 inch sport wheels than I thought I would be.

Planning on getting some door sills (I was shocked at how chintzy it seems without anything). Already have the clear reflectors and am hoping to add the knee bolster from the X5M as soon as it becomes "available" to ship.

BTW for those interested. The Anniversary 10's are in production. The color is GORGEOUS but all the ones I saw do not appear to be for the US market (no side reflectors in the bumpers).

I don't even want to see it....I wanted that color and they wouldn't do it :(

Congrats! Great pics! Got a pic of the 10th Anni's? :)

Blair780 11-04-2009 03:25 PM

They take ALL photographic equipment (including phones) prior to entering the factory (where the Anniversary Editions and the Active Hybrids for that matter were).

Very nice..... question, the sport button comes from what package? Adaptive drive or Sport Activity package?

Thanks for sharing pics.... Mine should be coming in December... Cant wait!

Blair780 11-04-2009 05:26 PM

Adaptive Drive, which by the way is AWESOME. Another nice part that differs from previous BMW's is that the SPORT button setting is retained (off/on) which means I don't have to turn it on every time I drive.

Congrats Blair, and thanks for the "short" write up and pics :rofl::rofl:
Im picking up mine this Thursday, and guess what, we had the same color and spec, minus the leather dashboard and active seats and adaptive whatever ;) So i guess i can just copy a link to this thread for my PCD experience, hahaha...

Enjoy your time there, it's a great experience!!! Hope you get good weather! Willie did our delivery, if you get her to do yours please tell her we send our thanks!

Redridge 11-04-2009 05:37 PM

Thanks.... enjoy in good health.

Is the adaptive drive worth the money?

I guess it depends on the driver. I wouldn't ever own a BMW without sport package mostly because of the suspension. In this case that make it a no brainer for us.

If you like a sport suspension you should at a minimum drive with and without back-to-back to decide.

:iagree:

My first 2 X5s were non sport. After getting the E70 with the sport package, I'll never go back.

I like putting the shifter in sports mode when taking the turns or wanting more get up and go, which I do on a regular basis. I find it more fun to drive.

alexmish 11-04-2009 06:36 PM

Genemish and I drove one (3.5d, test drive) without an adaptive drive, and it leaned somewhat significantly in turns. It is a must have in a bimmer ! Otherwise I'd buy a Honda...

Yes, i took it in a turn at 35mph and barely kept it from going into oncoming traffic lane..

Congrats Blair!!!

I must say however, X5M or bust :D

Blair780 11-05-2009 09:40 AM

Been there, done that. I'll check back with you on that in the middle of winter.

Rez 11-05-2009 12:09 PM

That was obviously a joke! If you think the old 4.8 is the same as the new M, I have news for you, think again...
