Diesel BMW Engine Programming alert
 

Saturday at 3:00 PM CT on the Science Channel TV program "Some Assembly Required," about a third of the program is on manufacture of the BMW Diesel engines.

I saw it a while back and it was interesting, although in the program they seem to switch between different engines during the process, and talk as if it is one engine going through the process.

Thanks for the heads up. Set the timer on the DVR :)

Watching the segment now. Good stuff.

:( I have to pay for that channel on Dish. No luck on Hulu, ShareTheFiles or YouTube either! I figured out it's Series 1, Episode 6.

I'm surprise BMW doesn't drop a little bit of royalty money onto the Science Channel and post the segment on You Tube or the BMW website. BMW use to be into non-traditional marketing efforts, such the the short films on DVD for the first Z4.

I am surprised they allowed the camera crew to the assembly line. In Spartansburg they take away all cameras and even phones. It did look impressive on the screen, but seeing it live is even more powerful.
I am convinced that BMW is on the mission to change Americans' misconceptions about diesel. I agree with them and it feels good to participate.

Could be, but they sure messd it up out-the-door by overpricing them tremendously. The Diesel premium was about twice what even the largest estimates were prior to the launch/announcement, e.g., most of the estimates I saw were from a $1,000 to $2,000 premium.

BMW should have listened to their Dealers and Salespeople. Some of the salespeople I talked to said they were enthusiastic until the price was announced, and then they backed-off promoting it to their customers since it was such a hard sell at that price.

Nothing a little Eco Credit wouldn't fix....

Yeah, I think they were quite surprised at the response. Hopefully they learned something...
