who almost got the X6??
i'm sure i'm not the only one here....
i've been going back and forth between the new X5 and X6 (both in 6) i will be trading my 08 x5 for a 2010 and I've been going crazy with this decision.. it hasn't been that easy for me... it's not a question of whether or not I need a "truck or sportier vehicle" or should I being saying SAV vs SAC? it's really cargo space that I trully need and both offer plenty of it... but not for work, God no, more like Costco and local running around....I have no children and I like to have fun with some power... (but don't want to opt for the V8) love the X5 but the X6 has been growing on me... although I did see a black one on the highway that kinda looked funny! both vehicles will be in white with blk and aluminum trim...(with all the bells and whistles) Has someone gone through these comparisons?? test drove both which didn't make things easier... thoughts???:dunno: |
If I were in your situation, I'd get the X6.
|
I think the X6 might be the ugliest car ever made. The new Accord Crosstour and the Pontiac Aztec are obvious cousins. I am sure it drives fine but damn!
|
X6 is growing on me....
However, the "professional" reviews say that the steering feel is terrible and that it feels heavy, even compared the X5. I never drove one, but I like the fact that you don't see many on the road. I didn't like it originally, but I'm really starting to like it now. And I really like the interior.
I have a little girl, so the cargo area in the X5 is more practical for me. |
Car you live without the rear wiper ;)

If you live in NYC, oversized parking rates might have to figure into your decision as well. I always get charged oversized for the X5 in NYC, I can't imagine the X6 having the same issue.
That being said, I want to like the X6, but I just don't. Have you seen the new Honda Accord Crosstour or Acura ZDX? BMW is the trendsetter, but the Honda and Acura sure look like the X :(. |
Hmmm....I can't remember.
I'll see if I can find it. Keep in mind that I had professionals in quotes for a reasons - I don't believe everything they write.

I don't think the X6 is ugly... I believe it is trendy and there are numerous similar styles...(Infinity FX models for one...)
it does ride on the same chassis and have the same technology (suspension, steering, and tech toys) as the X5 but comes with more power.. haven't seen any bad ride reviews... can you send links? |
I like the X6, but here are the negative issues brought out in some of the reviews: 1) heavy, 2) seats only 4, 3) severe limited rear visibility, 4) expensive, 5) options also very expensive but also highly desireable, many of which should be included in the base vehicle from the beginning, and 6) low mileage. Some reviewers have also suggested it is visually unappealing, but that is in the eye of the beholder. My take: the big negatives are: rear seating for only 4, ultimate cost when optioned the way you want the vehicle, and rear visibility. All of these could have been addressed by BMW. The end result is that customers will look at alternatives...

I've seen the X6 in person a few times (including the M) and I only like a couple angles on it (mostly from just the rear quarters). I don't think I can live with the styling full time.
Anyway, as someone who also has an '08 3.0si, I can see where you're going with it. If I were in your situation, I would wait for the twin turbo gas then make my decision on which X5 to get. ;) The upgrade decision also has a lot to do with the new idrive... but the twin turbo I6 is tasty too. BTW, mind if I ask how much they're offering for your trade right now and how many miles? |
08 with 14k miles and all the toys... $47 trade-in...

Yes, went through the same, we booked to test drive both. We went out in the X5 first and it ws all we expected, my wife then sat in the back of the X6 and that was as far as we got. It feels a touch confined for such a big car and this is down to the sloping roof, we couldnt get our heads around how it would work better for us vs an X5. I personally thought the GT would be a better bet than the X6.

Tow package + 35d and I would have bought the X6. But not in the US:rolleyes:

Why do you want a 2010? Other than the new iDrive there is no difference. Wait for the 2010 and get the X6 engine in the X5 body.

if that's the case then I will wait.... is there a link online with this info?? |
Have you test-driven both of them ? I suggest you try 4.8 X5 and X6 (5.0 and 3.5).
If you dont have kids, X6 is probably safe choice cargo space wise, but you should read cmyX6go review - lack of rear wiper, some rear view obstructions, etc and see if they make a difference for you. As for the oversized parking extra fees in NYC - some places charge, and some dont. I drive-in in NYC quite often, and know a few places where they dont charge those fees. But in any, X5 and X6 are the same when it comes to paying the fee. |
yes, i've tested both models... the 8 has awesome power but terrible gas mileage... the 6 makes more sense for me...
i really want the technical updates and I like the m-pkg option.. gives it a nicer look... obviously more power isn't bad and I've always thought the perfect combo would be the X5 with the X6 twin turbo (non-diesel) engine... after reading about some rumors that this may become a reality in 2011, I may just wait another year... so the research continues.... |

Acura ZDX has the intelligent SH-AWD which BMW introduced with X6 as DPC. Acura introduced first in 2004 on RL. E70 X5 still does not have that. X6 is the way to go. If you want X5 than wait till facelift with DPC and other features added. |
I would have LOVE to have gotten the X6. Absolutely love the look of the car and the niche the car represents.
Don't get me wrong. X5 is a great car. But I just think the X6 looks sexier. Also you can get X6 with soft close doors. The running boards isn't as obstrustive. You get a 1 piece trunk hatch. (not real deal breakers for most people or me, but nice bonuses). |
X6 looks decent, but functionality wise the rear window is awful!!! Can't see captain!

i would only wait if, and only if, BMW will offer the TT6 on the 2011 X5...otherwise the X6 is the way to go for me... my current X5 is nice but a little weak on pickup... feels almost like a turbo lag... a little more instant torque and it would be perfect! the 2010 X5 with M-pkg option looks nice but it doesn't really make sense since there is no extra power to go with the looks. I think getting the 2010 X5 will be the same as what I currently have in my 08... except better NAV and improved rear camera. everything else is the same...so it's not much of an "upgrade" it's either X6 or wait for the new X5 early next year... hopefully it will be available for purchase in spring of 2010.. |
