Try to find a station that sells premium diesel fuel. I would stick with a name brand premium diesel fuel if you can find it.

I read the Michelin warranty that came with the car. In it they state that if a tire is unrepairable after damage, they will replace it. Time and tread thickness conditions exist after which they will pay pro rata.

First of all, congratulations with the right choice!
Diesel: as long as it's ULSD, its more important to buy it from a place with enough diesel sales and with equipment in decent condition (you want the station's holding tanks to be relatively clean and chances are they take equal care of both the inside and outside of the station. Having a brand name station is another proxy for quality, but it comes at a price. The dirty secret of the gas retailing business is that the no brand station often sell product from the same wholesaler as your shell or exon station across the street, its kind of like a store brand product, kind of the same, but is it? But since its a BMW forum, why would we care about a few penny difference in price for a premium brand, right?
I believe that the run flats can be fixed if the nail is in the tread, not in the sidewalls, and if you did not run on punctured tire for too long. Most brand name tire shops will refuse to fix run flats because there is less data on the performance of patched up tires, and because they have no easy way of checking the condition of the sidewalls which could deteriorate if you drive on punctured tires for a few miles. At the same time, I have friends driving many thousand miles on fixed run flats. One had to use a power drill to fit the standard plug because the standard tool in the kit was not strong enough for the thick and hard tread of a run flat.

High volume of diesel sales is the thing you want in a station, especially in humid or cold climates where water in the diesel is a distinct and nasty probability (I have a diesel truck I tow the race car with).

The first thing I did on our 4.8 was get rid of the runcraps. I recently test drove an X5d on 18's and the ride was rougher than our 4.8i on 19's. That was good enough for me. On our incoming X5d I'll do the same thing and I haven't taken tire insurance before and don't think I would.

The last time I did any reasearch the tires were available at a lower cost through the Tire Rack. As well, I've not had a flat before that couldn't be fixed with a proper woven patch. The last one was a Continental off a 328xiT (run flat).

Locally one place repairs the tires for free - I think on the basis that its a goodwill gesture.

The X5d is a high tech engine, I'll be going with ULSD no matter what.

best move i made was buy insurance!! paid $695. for 5 years
 

i got a nail in both my 20"s tires front and rear...go buy 2 20" and see what it cost.. more then $695.. im way ahead and i have 3 years to go... buy it!!!!!
