Looking for ideas to better organize the cabin

While all new cars now come with cup holders, other details of interior vary from model to model. I loved my old Acura's little compartment in the door handle for storing change, or a compartment for sun glasses you can find in many luxury cars. How did you organize your X5 to make it perfect? Here are the issues I am trying to solve, but may be there others you suggest?

Where do you keep change to use in parking meters?

Where do you keep your sun glasses?

Where do you keep your insurance and vehicle registration cards (yes, in NY you need to have a vehicle registration card and a sticker on the windshield. Makes no sense to me, but those are the rules)

CD storage (I used a pouch for the visor, but X5 visor is so thin, my old one does not hold). While I do have an iPod, I used to keep kids cd's in that visor pouch.

change in ashtray

glasses on visor (clip)

registration/insurance cards in wallet (and on windshield of course)

I put mp3s on a CD and keep it in the drive. If I have another CD, I'd put it in the armrest console, but I don't have a 2nd cd right now. I have never owned an ipod.

Change in the ashtray

Sunglasses in the center console

Registration, etc in glove box.

Few CDs in drivers door storage pocket. Mostly use ipod

There is a great feature that lets you store CDs in your car's hard drive and its pretty big.... 16000 tracks. Also, you can load your music on a USB thumb drive and access them externally. CDs are a thing of the past. With this vehicle, you don't need to carry CDs any more!

Regarding loose change... I guess you need it for parking meters in NY, and less for tolls (please dont tell me you dont have EZPass ;)) ... So, what I have is a small leather zipper pouch which can hold probably around $20-$30 of quarters. It is convinient because I can just carry pouch to the meter, feed it and just drop it back in the center console. This way I dont have to guess how much change I will need.

For the trunk, I use ROLA organizer (the one which is 40" wide). It has velcro-attached dividers, which can be quickly re-arranged to make narrow/wide sections, or the whole thing can be just collapsed & folded completely to make space for bigger items. The bottom is non-slippery type so it does not slide around.. Highly recommended !!!

Glasses on visor-clip; change (lots) in ashtray; vehicle document in glove box (why keep them in your wallet? reminds me of that Seinfeld episode); cds? really? I use an Ipod, and as another poster mentioned you can rip cds onto the hard drive. Good luck!

I don't watch Seinfeld... why is it bad? I keep it in my wallet because I'm the only driver and if the vehicle is stolen they won't have the registration to present to the cop if they're stopped for another reason. Something from the old days when vehicles were more easily stolen.

Doesn't the NY registration have owners name? If they present to cop, they have bigger issues.
The issue I see with leaving registration in glove box is if you have garage opener and they come to get into your house for more stuff.

Both me and my wife drive the X5, which means I have to keep the registration and insurance cards in the car. I agree with rh71 that it makes more sense to keep them out of the car, but that's not going to work with my wife, she already lost one car key, don't want to lose the documents as well. Moreover, if someone tried to steal the X5, chances are they'd be using a tow truck. I can't imaging someone hacking all the alarm and bmw assist systems on the street to drive it off.
I had a clip for the glasses, but my wife hated it and kept taking it off. At some point I stopped fighting.
I need to invest some time into cd ripping. It just sounds like a lot of hassle.
alexmish, trunk organizer is a great idea. Did anyone use the nets and hooks in the floor of a premium model? I had a net in my acura and it was very convenient. I kind of like the idea, but than I cant use trunk mat or liner...
By the way, does anyone have a strut holding the trunk floor open? Mine does not, but I see holes where its suppose to be attached.
Coins in the ashtray? That should work. I wonder why they still make ashtrays and lighters. Most smokers I know don't use ashtrays because of the smell
I should add a sit back pouch from Sunshine Kids I saw Genmish is using, mostly as a protector from kids kicking the sit backs . We used sunscreen mesh for the stroller from Sunshine Kids, it was a well done product.
