Production Status

Hi all. Newbie here and have been reading the threads the past couple of weeks. Very good posts , interesting, informative and entertaining.

I have an 35D on order and when i called today the 800#, the status is in the paint shop and with a completion date of 12/2/2009. Hmmm, that's a date in the past. Are there delays? Anyone with orders in production experiencing the same thing?

+1.... I hate it when they have to lie, then when you get the X earlier than when they said it would come... they are heroes. I dont want any heroes, just want accurate data....Is that to much to ask.

Called my dealer and he said that he expects to have it at the dealership by last week of January. That's a long time to wait... what should I do in the meantime??? I've read the brochure numerous times, the pages are falling apart.

This wait is expensive. I have been ordering accessories for the X5 I don't have yet. I've ordered the Weathertech rubber mats and cargo mat. Looking at others accessories to pass time away. One thing I regret not including in my order is the compact spare tire. When I called to add it, it was too late since it was already in production. I might have to order that at the dealer on delivery. Would it cost about the same at the dealer than when factory installed, $135? Not sure if I can get that elsewhere.

OP,
I'm in the same boat too. However, my build date was in Nov. So, I was told I would get the car in mid/late December. Since we're in CA, shipping and prep takes a long time.

Call them again, after listening to automatic response, press 0 to talk to the operator. They will pull up even more up-to-date info.

Right now the website states my 335xi is on-order, while operator told me that it started production this morning at 4:32am...

Thanks Alexmish! Just did that and was told that the car was in the paint shop yesterday but is now in the "stacker" waiting.

Thanks Alexmish, I did the same and the operator said mine is going/with the quality inspection. She said that once it is done then it is the responsibility of the dealer to ship it to them and I need to follow up with the dealer for the arrival time frame and delivery. Is it true? I mean does this work this way.

If that's the case then it should complete production by next week? That's a long time to get to the dealer, if dealer says that he'll get it last week of January. I hope he padded the date so as not to disappoint me if it were delayed. But really, 8 weeks more to wait..

bigx5er 12-03-2009 08:03 PM

Which tends to be closer to accurate, the phone number or website?

X5sapphireblack 12-03-2009 08:08 PM

In my case its the 800# that's more accurate. The website still says scheduled for production. Also the website has my options changing, sometimes it has the options ordered all but one, sometimes none at all. It's very confusing and it doesn't help to calm my fears that they're building it according to my order.

That's what my question was, is the shipping scheduled/responsibility of the dealer or BMW?
Based on the answer for the above, may be we can follow up with the dealer for early shipping n delivery.
Can some one pass on expert comments :)

I believe the cost is about double if you order it afterwards, as it's not just the tire, but the jack as well.

Thanks Penguin. I think I'll do that the. I'll keep with the run-flat tires but would still like the peace of mind that I have a spare if needed, even if I can still drive ~ 50miles with a flat.
I wonder if you do not have a spare and had a flat tire , if BMW Assist would send a truck to just tow you or do they have a spare tire that they can put on?

BTW- got an email from the dealer and sent me a screenshot of the status of "At Final Processing Center". He said that it was released to the carrier to the train for transporting and approximates 3-4 weeks to get here to the west coast. Hoping to get it before the end of the year then. I'm counting the days......

Production is Complete – waiting to be released to carrier

#800 Status: Production is Complete – waiting to be released to carrier....

Guess count down begins
