can TPM sensors be disabled?
 

I have the OEM Y spokes but they look pretty banged up and if I don't trade her in this year I may opt to replace the wheels for nicer ones..

question...if i opt to install other aftermarket wheel/tire combo how do I disable the TPM sensors?

do I really need them?

for the last 20 years I've never really needed to monitor these things...

how bad can it be not monitoring tire pressure??

I just don't want any alarms or notifications coming on all the time when i'm driving...

does anyone know what will happen if the system doesnt detect TPMs?

1. Yes you need TPMS in your car.
2. If ever your tire pressure is low or your tire is flat, you won't easily know. TPMS monitor will notify you immediately, possible avoiding any accidents.
3. If there are no TPMS sensors in the car, you'll get a warning light every time you start the engine. This happens even if one of the four sensors is malfunctioning/missing.
4. You can definitely use your existing TPMS sensors with aftermarket wheels. Make sure you check with the wheel manufacturer. I have aftermarket wheels and I use my stock TPMS with them.
5. ...and finally, TPMS cannot be disabled.

Agree with Shashankmittal with one condition - if you chose to stick with runflats. There is no much use for regular tires since you will feel a flat or significant pressure reduction yourself if driving on regular tires.
When you get a flat on RFT, you need to reset the TPMS sensor after the the fix. If you did not, it would let you know at start up and kept a flat tire signal on the dash, but was not too annoying in while driving. I think the result should be the same if you dont have the sensors.

But you can always move your sensors to the new wheels to not wary about it.

Aftermarket sensor are $200... worth it IMO.
