OBD II Code scanner for 2009 35d?

OK. Our Exhaust-gas values light (AKA 'check engine light' or 'Service Engine Soon' light) came on this AM at just over 4,500 miles. So this has now officially gone from a minor problem annoying others, to a BFD demanding immediate attention! :wow:

I'm looking for a good OBD II reader that preferably will allow me to reset the fault codes (in a later life, after warranty). Any suggestions? Has any one used an OBD II reader on their 35d?

Has anyone used the Actron Pocket Scan Plus CP9410?

p.s. I called Bav Auto and their customer support guy said their current code reader's firmware had not been updated to handle 2009 models. :dunno:

Edit: I think the Bav Auto code reader is a re-branded reader by Peake Research. Their site doesn't list any model past 2007 :(

The only one to buy, and the only place to buy from, is here:
Bavarian Technic Cable Reset BMW Check Engine Lights- Burger Motorsports
Terry is THE MAN - almost instant response via email and 100% customer satisfaction is what you can expect from him.

The product page doesn't say that it works on an X5d but I have contacted him and he said it will work. I'll be plugging mine in tonight to see what my engine light is on for.

I've used the scanner on my past 335xi and it is amazing. You can't go wrong here.

+1

Real handy tool. Works on my 135 and my 08 X5 3.0

Looks like the Durametric I use on the P car....hmmm... If it has that functionality there is no question this surpasses a Peake. Reading codes is one thing, but streaming data and watching how the dme reacts is an order of magnitude more for troubleshooting/tuning.

Nice find

A

Thanks jaaX3.

That looks like a kick butt, take names OBD II scanner/diagnostic tool. It is probably not for me though, since we only have one vehicle that even HAS an OBD II connector and it will be under warranty for at least 4 yrs.

I went with the lower tech Actron CP1980 that allows me to read and reset codes. But doesn't go into anywhere near the detail of yours.

Thanks again - Funf Dreisig

I used the BT scanner last night - my findings are here: Xoutpost.com - View Single Post - Check engine light?

It can reset all faults, including hidden faults (I was able to reset faults on my modded 335xi). However these are issues that I want to have checked at the dealer. Now I'm in-the-know when I take the car in.
