Dealer oil change cost for diesel

Im having a between-freebie oil & filter change done at the dealer this afternoon. Want to get the breakin gunk out. Does anyone know what a normal cost for this should be for the diesel?

'taint cheap. The oil and filter alone is about $100, so at a dealer I'd guess $150-$200.

I'm in LA and had it changed at about 5,500 miles...cost $180 and change...I have the X5 diesel as well.

Thanks to both of you. Im sitting in the dealer now waiting on it. That 170+tax is what they quoted me so it looks like its all the same.

Mine has 5,930. Looks like we had the same idea at the same time. Did you happen to ask how your oil looked when it came out?

Sheesh, $180? ...thats about double a normal BMW oil service isn't it? Glad I bought the lifetime free oil changes (every 3 months or 3k) for $795 from the dealer when I picked up our '10. Looks like it will pay for itself in the first couple years (between the BMW recommend oil services).

Is this a dealer specific thing or from BMW? Sounds like a great deal.

The diesel oil is more expensive for some reason, engine takes more of it, and the filter is about double.

Assuming your dealer uses the correct oil for the Diesel...

Dealership item. Our local dealer is part of a national dealership group (the Lithia Group). non-transferable and only good at Lithia dealerships. But I don't have any plans to move or sell the '10 for a LONG time so should work out well for us.:D

The diesel engine oil is about twice the price of the regular BMW oil. And there aren't a lot of diesels around. At that price, I would be a bit concerned that they might not use the expensive Diesel engine oil, since it is almost guaranteed to be a money losing proposition for them within a couple of years, e.g., based on what a parts guy told me about margins, the oil probably costs them $8 a quart, and the filter $14, for a total of $78 of parts at their cost. Figuring an oil change every 3 months, they will be "in the hole" in about 2 1/2 years on parts cost alone.

Maybe they haven't yet figured-out the higher cost of Diesel engine oil and filters, and have the same price as for the gasoline engines. Yours might be the vehicle that causes them to revise their pricing!
