I asked BMW to buy mine back. I waited 3 months for the air temp sensor to arrive at my dealer. I drove around with a new vehicle for 3 months with a check engine light. BMW doesn't want to purchase my vehicle. I'm still in contact with someone from BMWNA. I also waited 5 weeks for a heated fuel filter. Both times, I had to get BMWNA involved to receive my parts. This is totally unacceptable in my opinion for a new vehicle.

That is why I started this thread. If there is a problem with a particular part (e.g. an Air Temp. Sensor), EVERY dealer in the US should have that part in stock so that 35d owners can get their X5's fixed in no more than a day or two.

Update on Engine warning light. Well, I went out to start the X in -32c weather this morning, and it started without a problem, AND the Engine Warning Light was now off (after being on for 2 days).

I went to the dealership anyway and asked them what I should do, and they said no need to bring car in now, as long as car was running properly (which is was and is).

We have made a note and put it down to the extremely cold temps this weekend.

I will update if there is anything new to add.

IIRC the part that was replaced on your X5 35d was Air Temp Sensor part # 13627812741 -- the low temp sensor between the inter-cooler and the intake manifold -- that costs approx. $25.

It will be very interesting to see if the one on your 335d is the same part.

If you still can, please get your dealer to give you the old part so we can all see what it looks like.

Edit: After a quick search it looks like you may be the first 335d owner with a busted Air Temp Sensor.

BTW which 3 series forum would be the best to post an invite to 335d owners to participate in this busted Air Temp Sensor info collection process.

The car is still at the dealer. I'll see if I can get the part. One other thing, low oil light is on for the second time. Less than 10k mls?????? The X35d hasn't burned any. The most active 3 forum is bimmerfest afaik.

Funf- good thread, good idea

Folks- PLEASE report the EXACT code that the dealer pulls. Insist on it. Not "bad sensor" but demand they give you the precise OBD/BMW code that set the CEL light.

It will help future owners.

I had the dealer fax over my service ticket.

Part # 13-62-7-812-741 Temperature Sensor

That's the part that took 3 months.

Thanks taking the time to report the exact part number Craig.

For those counting...
This is the 2nd confirmation of this part number. This Air Temp Sensor is on the tube/hose that carries the compressed air from the outlet of the Turbocharger inter-cooler to the intake manifold.

This is just an issue in the twin turbo diesel right.. never had this on my 3.0d .. now 2 and half years on.....

Well until we collect some more info, we don't even know that it is a 'common problem' on the 35d.

What we have now is...
* 4 reports of sensor replacements on a 35d
* 2 of these have been confirmed to be the same part number
* we don't know about the other 2 yet

And I will be taking my 35d in tomorrow with a CEL lit and an OBD II code P007B which points to an Air Temp Sensor.

Maybe there is a 'common problem' or maybe just a coincidence. Time will tell.
