I forgot to mention that a sunroof raises the centre of gravity of the vehicle leading to poorer handling and steering response. The extra weight also has a negative effect on the fuel consumption. Having the sunroof open also leads to vulnerability to bird-sh*t attacks and increased vulnerability to attacks by hooligans and terrorists!

psssst... but whatever you do, don't mention that the fancy (and now more expensive) Adaptive Drive option is to compensate for the top heaviness of the sun roof ;)

Don't get me wrong. I'm actually a big fan of sunroofs and am in the process of designing one for my motorbike with a simpler and more aerodynamic version for my pushbike also on the drawing board. I'm sure that once you see the finished items you'll be keen to add them (under licence, of course) to your already impressive Funf Dreisig AG product range.

Just a quick update.

If anyone has purchased the sunroof emergency close tool (an allen wrench bent into a crank shape), here's how it fits in your tool tray:

sunroofs also malfunction - again. Back to dealer for me since the small screen bracket at the front is slamming down again. Not moving back and forth with full range.

result: sunroof had to be completely replaced, total cost about 3000$, BMW paid for about half of that amount... (I've been told I can be quite convincing :D)

^ you mean it was out of warranty when it happened? They should be replacing the whole thing on their dime otherwise, correct?

they had some lame excuse of warranty conditions: the 5-series had over 100.000kms but was just over 2 years old, so according to the age of the car, it was under warranty but according to the mileage it wasn't anymore...
after some arguing they understood that wear and tear of a sunroof has nothing to do with the mileage, they covered 50% of the costs...
needless to say that on the new X5, I didn't get the sunroof.
way to much rain here in Belgium...:rolleyes:

just for laughs: when I got the car back after their first attempt to close the sunroof... I went :wow:
the roof was closed allright... with duckt-tape...:confused:
