Big Jump in Expected Completion Date

My wife's car entered production on 12/15 with an estimated completion date of 1/4. Today, the automated system & my CA tell me the car is in the body shop with an estimated completion date of 12/22. May get the car before 12/31, which I'm really happy about for tax reasons! Any idea how the estimated completion date jumped almost two weeks?

its very strange how the range of deliveries are with these vehicles.... mine took 6 weeks.

The factory closes from Dec 21 to Jan 4.
They probably have a big push to complete everything before the December closing.

Hi pgax5,

What is your order date ? Mine is Dec 8th, since I am in Florida, transportation should not take that long. I am expecting to get in first week of Jan. by this.

Yeah, that could very well be the reason. It could also be that some previously scheduled production vehicles were yanked out of the schedule due to a delay in parts specific to those vehicles, and others pulled-ahead to fill the slots left open, e.g., there seems to be rumors about problems with the tech package parts availability. If so, they could very well delay production of vehicles with the tech package, and pull-ahead vehicles that do not have the tech package.

Having once worked many years ago in an auto company, and had some minor short-term involvement with production scheduling, I can say there are many reasons for shuffling the production schedule, few of which are obvious to anyone outside the production scheduling department. Most have to do with parts availability and/or quality issues, e.g., all of a sudden the red vehicles may have paint problems, so red vehicles are pulled out of the schedule until they figure out what the problem is with the red paint.

I ordered on 11/25 and was told just days later that production was delayed until the supply chain issue with the Top View Camera was resolved (mine does have Tech Pkg). I've posted about this issue and am keeping my fingers crossed that they didn't just delete the camera from the package.

I ordered on 11/13 with the tech package and it went into production today.

Based on the delays in the tracking system I saw just last week, I'll bet your X5 is done by now and on it's way. Mine was at my dealer by the time the tracking system said production was done.
