214 Style with Winter Tires Experiment

I purchased a set of Perelli Scorpion Snow and Ice RFT tires that fit the 214 style wheels. Got them from Tire Rack and so far so good. I drove through the heavy snow last week in PA and the X felt solid and as glued to the road as anything I've ever driven. It also stopped fine at normal driving speeds.

I'll post pics and a more detailed review in a few weeks.

I'm currently out of the country but I'll get back to PA on Monday. I will post some pics by Thursday.

Generally one should downsize to get optimum traction and stability in the snow, but at least its better than summer tyres.

Completely agree.

This is just an experiment to see if they would work. The first drive was cautious to say the least. I can't imagine getting any better traction at this point though. We received at least 10 inches of snow on the first day and the next day the roads were freezing.

When I get back home I'll do some more snow driving and stopping and take some pics.

Drove in the Oklahoma blizzard last night and the X performed marvelously. I'm running 10" 214's all the way around with Yokohama Parada Spec-X tires and they continue to exceed my expectations.

Running 10" 214's with Michelin Alpine's all around on both of our X's and they work very well with ice and snow. Highly recommended. The Michelin Alpin 275/40/20 run $208 at Tirerack.
