Phone Book Question

I have noticed that about 25% of the time when my phone connects to the car via bluetooth that I am unable to access the phone book on my phone. I am still able to make phone calls and Idrive says its synched with my phone.

Anyone else have this problem? Is this "normal"? Should I take the car in to be fixed?

Thanks

May be a phone realted issue. Is yours fully compatible? I use the Verizon Blackberry Storm and it syncs up 100% of the time - so far.

Its an Iphone which is supposed to be compatible.

I have the same problem with my phone. Since my phone isn't on the "BMW Approved List", there was nothing they could do. The iPhone is an approved phone, so take the car in and have them look at it.

BMW currently approved phones:

BMW North America

Check the Bluetooth settings on your phone. For example if it's an iPhone you have to select settings > general > Bluetooth > select the vehicle > there you will see the settings. Make sure all are switched to "on" and make sure under "other groups" at the bottom of the screen that "All Contacts" is checked. Should sync properly.

Are your contacts in your phone's flash memory, or are they in your phone's SIM card? If they are in the SIM card transfer them to the phone memory.

Thanks to both of the above posters. I appreciate the help. How do I transfer SIM card contacts to the hard drive? I think the Iphone contacts are on the SIM card but am not 100% sure.

Thanks

You can not transfer the contacts to the car permanently (Hard Drive), but you can make sure the iPhone contacts are in the phone by going to: Settings-> Mail, Contacts, Calendars-> Import SIM Contacts.

I do not think the Iphone has a SIM card. At least mine does not. The car will only sync up to 1000 phone numbers, not contacts. So if you have 500 contacts, but each one of those contacts has a home phone number, work phone number, cell phone number and fax number, the car will try and sync all of them, including the fax number! For 500 contacts that would be 2,500 numbers. It will not sync all the contacts, it will sync the first 1000 numbers in the contacts list.

BMW are supposed to be coming out with a fix that will increase the total phone numbers allowed to sync to 1,200 sometime in January 2010. Not really enough of a fix in my opinion and why would you need to sync a fax number to the car???

I have an Iphone 3G and it has a SiMM card. It is pretty well hidden and you may not know its there. Maybe that fix will help.

ALL 3G/GSM Phone's have a SIM card, on the iPhone it is very well hidden, but if you look on the top of the phone in the middle there is a place and a cover for the slot for a SIM card.

Also BMW needs to work on the software, though as they allotted 10GB for contacts but are capping it at 1200???
