There are instructions on this forum for the E53 (search on center console removal). I didn't specifically see instructions for the E70. I recently had to remove the gear shift to remove a coin that had fallen into the center console of my 2009 35d.
Given the level of knowledge on this forum, it wouldn't surprise me to see someone either post or point you to the exact procedure for console removal. If not though, you can deduce most of the steps by reviewing exploded parts diagrams (RealOEM.com, etc). I only had to remove one trim piece, but it was a bit tricky given how tight the clamps held. The other common comment I found while reading about console removal was that it was a major PIA. Good Luck.
